I searched for a topic like this but couldn't find any. Here you can post your pc hardware - what you run your current games on. I DON'T mean for this to become a "who's got the biggest" contest, but from what I've seen you guys are really mature so I guess that won't be a problem *EDIT* oh yes forgot lol AMD Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3 ghz Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 4GB OCZ DDR-800 Special Ops Edition ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE 160GB Maxtor Diamond 5.1 speakers + woofer (unbranded lol) onboard sound Acer AL1917 19" LCD |

Hi guys, I've got a better PC than you all and before someone asks: NO, you're not allowed to touch it. |

Posted by: mallic September 03, 2007 10:48 pm |
^^^^ agrees although mine is good enough to run bf2 WoW and hl2 all at once |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 03, 2007 10:58 pm |
I notice not many people are posting specs... that was the point of the thread... But oh well never mind. I've tried rendering a lengthy HD video and playing FEAR on full graphics @ 1280x1024 - that didn't go so well |
Posted by: Security Corporate September 03, 2007 11:53 pm
Wah? Chu so fani man. I don't have reason to brag about my computer. My specs are pretty modest. I really need to upgrade. Like everything. |

Tell me howz the 8800 perform? |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 04, 2007 08:06 pm
Absolutley awsomely. all games I can find at max graphics play no problem (vsync means 75fps maxed out), however I've had a few wierd slowdowns while playing FEAR though, like looking at a certain surface or object, but I'm sure that's due to another bug not the card I haven't got any solid benchmarks yet, but I'll post them if and when I do The one I got is the Inno3d 8800GTS 320mb - the cheapest I could find, though I've no idea why. for my monitor (1280x1024) it's just perfect. one important note is it gets VERY hot. Late at night, after gaming for a good few hours I can easily feel exactly where the card is through the case |
Posted by: mrmicky September 04, 2007 08:37 pm |
Well the heat can be tweaked by manuelly fitting a new more powerful fan. |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 04, 2007 09:21 pm |
yup, but I may just buy a better case and/or fit water cooling, as that is more effective than any air system Not for the time being though - this machine is fine for the next year or so at least |
Posted by: mrmicky September 04, 2007 09:23 pm |
liquid cooling is great, thats what ill get in my new pc in a few years unless a new cooling system is released. |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 04, 2007 09:27 pm |
Yeah, like "stick-your-pc-in-the-freezer" That works great I don't know how people in very hot countries cope if they don't have air conditioning... Although Alaska/Greenland should have no problems - they can just open a window and instantly have an ambient -14C |
Posted by: gordon_frohman September 04, 2007 10:10 pm
i know^^ its a very good card but isnt it liek 1 year old ? and tbh , heat doesnt bother the least... its cold as a bitch innit , and that affects the rest of the room . therefor the BLANKET! |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 05, 2007 04:23 pm
Yup, but I've yet to play a game that can drop my fps below 40-50 on my system (also that means it was cheap as fancy chips) I tend not to go for the brand spanking new stuff, or the ultra-super-wow XXX editions of things, as you get very little benefit for the loads of extra money. 10 months old, almost top of the range stuff is best balance in my opinion. *Edit* post up ur specs too |
Posted by: mrchace September 05, 2007 08:26 pm |
3.5Ghz Processor (AMD) Nvidia GeForce 6600 SLI 1 GB/ Ram Windows XP home edition (hate vista bullshit) Logitech Laser guided mouse. Logitech "Basic Function" Keyboard (Has mp3 control, internet control) Sucky speakers and Monitor, not worth mentioning. |

(whistles) what cooling do you use on that thing?? That must be the fx-70 right? |

Posted by: jimmy September 06, 2007 06:43 am |
well, i don't use my pc for games often, I was sick of it being crap even though it met the requirements printed on the games cases so i decided to stick with consoles, at least then you know it will work. However, the shit heap im typing from has: -AMD Athlon XP2400+ 2.0Ghz (what ever the hell that means, all i really know is that its old, single core and uses a socket no longer in production.) -768mb RAM (a 256mb i flogged from school and a 512 that came with the pc) -a dodgy ASRock Motherboard (my third one, every 6 months or so the north bridge burns out or something like that) -RADEON X800 PRO/GTO 256mb (The only part remotely worthwhile in my pc) My monitor is some old hat 15" CRT, it has to be bashed on the side every time its turned on for it to display. YAY FOR THE FRANKENSTEIN PC!!! |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 06, 2007 06:10 pm |
lol, you just reminded me of my two old pc's I had... hehe... Ok First, my last one, so not too bad: AMD Athlon 3400+ @ 2.41Ghz (socket 754) 1GB Corsair Value Select DDR400 (2x512MB) PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB Asus K8n non-branded 500W PSU non-branded 17" CRT monitor and my OLD one Pentium III @ 166Mhz Unkown mobo... Onboard video, upgraded to: Voodoo3 16MB accelerator card 1.2Gb IDE hard drive 32MB ram. impressive, yes? |
Posted by: gordon_frohman September 06, 2007 06:30 pm |
jimmy . hertz means wave sort off. how many times the screen for example blips off and one in one second... and giga we all know means a billion ( in the math and computer world ) so the pc has 3 billion blips on and off in the second.. now you dont see it because the eye can only register below 60 hertz a sec. most lamps has it that way too... thats why when you take a picture of a screen that is on you see kind of blips on it.. soddy explanation i know ,, but you get the basics... |

Me too to be honest. |
Posted by: jimmy September 06, 2007 11:00 pm
Thanks for the info i guess, i can't see how it concerns anything i posted though. I do understand your explanation though. |
Posted by: hunter September 07, 2007 05:30 pm |
Simplifie's a complicated subject to explain, hertz means frequency by the way. |
Posted by: gordon_frohman September 07, 2007 06:15 pm |
yeah hunter i kinda forgot that word , so i tried to tell it in waves sort of... well thats what my teacher taught me so... |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 07, 2007 10:39 pm
Ah yes, in electromagnetic waves, then Hertz refers to the frequency of the wavelengths. In computing, this is a measure of how many clock signals can be passed completely through your processor in a clock "cycle" for example, if you had a 1 Mhz machine, your processor could pass one million clock signals per second. 1 Ghz one billion, and 3 Ghz 3 billion clock cycles per second. Hope that clears things up a bit |
Posted by: hunter September 09, 2007 08:19 pm |
3 Billion clock cycles per second?!? Get in! |
Posted by: gordon_frohman September 09, 2007 08:49 pm

It wouldn't happen in the first place..... So, I've gots me a Tip for you guys. If you're to post something offtopic, always never forget what the topic is.... So, post your offtopic response, then the ontopic response. Seems easy eh? Note: If you think this is offtopic, it is a post to hopefully lower the offtopic activity of the forums. |

Yeah it's hard to be on-topic... hahaha. Oh well. Is 512 ram bad? |
Posted by: hunter September 15, 2007 12:46 pm |
Now a days 512mb of ram is bad. Playing hl2 is going to be a nightmare for you. Levels are goign to load in minutes were as having 2gb gets you there in seconds. |
Posted by: Smachine September 15, 2007 01:30 pm |
Hl2 doesnt need more than 1gb of ram. But you will not be able to play hl2 with 512 ram you will just feel slowdowns evertime the game loads some new stuff into memory. |
Posted by: Equalizer September 15, 2007 02:34 pm |
I'm hoping on buying at least 1GB of memory. I got my specs ready to put together, the irritating thing is just picking the right ones. |
Posted by: mrmicky September 15, 2007 02:52 pm |
http://crucial.com its great, helps with all the buying lark. |
Posted by: SDWBOSS September 15, 2007 06:39 pm
If you're looking to build a new gaming rig you really want to going for at least 2GB ddr800 - yes, you can survive on 1GB for now, but in a year's time the new games and aplications will struggle to run at all. Don't just think Half-Life 2, think Crysis 2. Hope that helps. |
Posted by: iliketoblowzombieheadsoff September 15, 2007 09:07 pm
I see.. Yeah, I have 512 ram, played HL2. Loading a level took about 1-2 minutes.. I got tired of that but I never quit playing. It was so damn fun playing HL2 with my crappy computer. Finished it too! Huzahh!! Anyways, is it hard to change/alter/enhance your Ram?? Do you need to open up your PC? Do you have to buy a new one? I might change leh ram when I get a job and get money. |
Posted by: gordon_frohman September 15, 2007 10:30 pm |
hehe downloaded this old game ^^ ( final fantasy 8 for those who want to know ) had to use daemon though. but even with my pc that can play most high graphic mmo's without lagging , half life 2 without missing one frame.. it laggs somewhat.. and sometimes crashes, irritates me alot... |

Could be a bad emulator, or it's attempting to play in DirectX 10 or something lol. |

Posted by: SDWBOSS September 17, 2007 02:18 pm
Sorry. Yes, it's easy to change ram. Before you do, though, make sure you computer is off, with the plugs on the wall off, but the power lead STILL CONNECTED to the pc. Touch a radiator or door handle to discharge any static on your body, then open up your case and you should see some long thin, probably black cards: Like this Take one out, by uncliping the plastic mounts either end of it (do NOT touch the gold bits) and have a look at what it says on the sticker, for example "pc3200 ddr400." Once you've done that, you know exactly what type of RAM to look for |
Posted by: hunter September 17, 2007 05:10 pm
Perfect explanation, not a lot of people know how to get rid of static, i do the same thing. |
Posted by: iliketoblowzombieheadsoff September 18, 2007 02:24 am
Thank you sir. Now, I shall find the time to do this, for right now is not the right time. Didn't mean to be a crybaby snagging for attention there, by the way. |

Unfortunately for me, I learned this the hard way - I was wearing nylon socks and they had rubbed on the carpet - as soon as I touched my motherboard, I got a shock from it and it refused to boot. It took a 2 week wait for a memory RMA... no change. 3 weeks for a processor RMA... no change. another week for motherboard RMA... they sent it back assuming they didn't send it in the first place, despite it being obviously opened and used... ... Finally another 3 days to buy the same model motherboard - all of summer 2006 gone with no pc |
