my game crashed for the first time after hours of play. it only crashed quicker w/ time. now it crashes after like a minute

. i've been to FAQ's and tryed to solve my problem w/ their solution but it doesnt seem to work for me. it also said it might be a system dependent problem. i dont kno what that means or how to fix it. if someone could help me i would sure appriciate it.

-My comp is custom made with Intel Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz prescott Processor with 800 MHz FSB, 1mb cache, socket 478. Asus P4P800-E Deluxe Motherboard. Kingston 512MB PC3200 DDR DIMM Memory. Seagate Barracuda ST380817AS 80GB Hard Drive. ABIT Radeon 9600XT 256MB AGP 8X Video Card.
i think that covers it.

-I've got comcast high speed connection.

-Not sure on what info to give about steam so ill just give u what i got.

I've got nothing on this one @_@;;. You computer should work fine with it. Have you tried re-installing it? But re-download from a different mirror that you dl'ed the first time. You may have gotten a corrupted file. If you already tried that, I've not a clue. Unless your other mods crash as well, if they do, you might want to re-install Half-Life.

yea.. ive had re-instaling in the back of my mind but i dont want to lose my lvl.. do u know if it is saved by IP adress or what. but yea its the only mod that crashes. but thank you for your help i really appriciate it.

So i went ahead and re-installed and it didnt help. neather did getting it from a different mirror. i try'd like 5. *sigh* the only game i like i cant play.. do u kno any other good third party HL mods. I've got natural selection, battle grounds 2, Day of defeat, CS (1.6!!, source is lame!) , vampire slayer, Hidden, Miverva, & brain brain obviously.

I don't know how to answer this one, but I shall try from the information you gave.

Does the game crash when a server switches to a custom map? If it does then you do not have the wads (texture files) to play that custom map.

Valve suggests that its users who experience issues do the following:
1) Run Scandisk
2) Run Defrag
3) Run Mcafee/Norton or other anti-virus program
4) If you have a program, check for spy/adware
Windows Defender (Beta 2)

5) Test your ram with a ram checker program
Windows MemTest

And one more thing to add, does your system have adequate cooling? Removing the cover is a good way to test this.

Nope, the EXP is saved server side. The server owner has a players.lvl file that has all the info. So, you didn't need to worry about that. Unless you had a server on your comp. But, try what RaptorRed suggested. I've got nothing else @_@;;

I dont know what map it originally crashed on but i know it will on any now, and its to where i can only play for like 3 minutes at a time. i keep my computer as clean and fast as i can seeing that my specs are going ou of date by the minute. i run disk scan everytime i hop on the comp and defrag everynight. i have norton 05' and all the good spy/adware programs. ill give taking off the side of my case to cool it down but b4 crahing it doesnt seem to get to loud. ive got my fan system set to spped up as everything get hotter. thank you for your help.. i feel that it hopeless although still gona try anyones ideas. anyone know any other good mods that i havent listed myself.

this is pissing me off so bad.. I've tried everything. even tried connecting str8 to the modem. some one tell me somthing new! i also got on my friends account and it still happend. ive tried so many mirrors.
