i second mutilateds comment about porting p.e. i hope valve makes hl2 as mod friendly as theve recently made hl1 (ie: steam>browse games>3rd party games). i think if p.e. had been able to launch with support like that it would have seen a bigger following.

I really hope they do.
And yes, Valve says porting mods from HL1 to Source (the HL2 engine) is very simple and was made to be simple for modding. |

From what I've heard on Moddb, someone said that they don't intend on porting to Half-Life 2, and might drop the project all together because of the low amount of people who accually play it.
In my opinion, I hope they do continue this mod because the maps are awsome (infact, the best i've ever seen in ANY half-life mod because of their origonality), very nice interface; Clean and to the point, and also the gameplay. I love hacking based mods. There was only 1 other good one, and that was "Existence Half-Life". Not even that was as good as Public-Enemy in my opinion. It was just another Matrix inspired mod like all the rest, "The Specialists" --Don't get me wrong, I love that mod-- "Action Half-Life" and so on. I hope they don't end the mod here, because it has come so far and has reached a greater state of origonality which I havn't seen from to many other projects. |

I would find it quite strange if they really don't want to port it because of the low amount of players. They know as well as we do, that Public Enemy mostly seemed to not be a big success because of the time when it came out. At the time when PE came out there was nearly no chance for a HL mod to be successful, if it wasn't something that was really innovative and had a great gameplay. Public Enemy had and has a great gameplay, but still it is too similiar to Counter-Strike with the mode that's played (1 team needs to hack computers, the other one needs to stop them. Similiar to: 1 Team needs to plant a bomb, the other one needs to stop them.). For sure, the equpitment system is quite inovative in my opinion, but still its not that far from a buying menu like in CS. So I don't think that only the low amount of players is the reason. And just think of the feedback of the community. I don't think I've ever heard any negative comment on Public Enemy. The only things you could hear were said by people that were simply amazed by the mod.
But I already asked if PE would be ported to HL2 when it's out, and I'm not sure if I remember it right, but I think that they said, that if HL2 had the promised, great modability (yay o.O), they would port it. But it would be very sad if they wouldn't port it. PE was really great and addictive. It even looks great on the HL1 engine, not menu mods can say this about theirselves. Now imagine PE on the Source Engine. Even better, impressive graphics, with this sweet gameplay... oh please, do it! [Edit] Hmm.. it seems I can't remember things. I just looked it up, and it seems it wasn't me who asked it, but Murmel. And MadMax said that they're not sure. He said they're working on their own game, with an own engine (I think they changed to a open-source engine. It was in the news), and that it will be a Singleplayer game. But if it's really that simple to port mods, why not do it? For sure you would need to improve things like the graphics, but wouldn't it be worth it? -------------------- |

it prolly wont be ported, although id like it to be ported over...the rest of the of initial PE team is going to be working on a new project after BB so they will be busy with that, you never know maybe they'll change their mind...

Greetings!
Thank you guys for your comments. I want to give you some information to create another point of view. The main problem is that the team asks itself what to do? Create another mod or try an innovative, commercial and completly new project? Most team members have finished school and started with their studies at university, so we've to think about a real commercial (i hate that word, but you know what i mean) success to establish the studio (and to reach the possibilty of creating new games; perhaps a new PE... ^^). I'm not only a mapper or a simple university student; i also worked out some nice investment projects (my father is very successful in doing business, because he's manager, banker and economical project leader) to support this studio... so perhaps we'll have the resources to run IronOak, but we need a commercial success to become well known. That's the first aspect. On the other hand we've to admit that PE wasn't a big success. And, although the gameplay is rather similiar with other mods it cannot be just this gameplay which failed. Most people who played PE like it.... but how many really played it? Only the cyberpunks out there, but nobody else.... and that's another problem. There were plenty of other mods, which have been released after the first release of PE and just copied gameplay from DoD, TFC or CS.... but those mods are successful because more people could identify themselfes with their environment. So that's the tragical problem of the mod. Their has been nothing that frustrated even more than the fail of PE at the end. It has been a traumatic experience for all of us. I hope that you could understand our thoughts and our motives now. We'll see. Perhaps there will be another PE in the future. -------------------- >> "Sie bildeten junge Männer aus Bomben auf ihre Häuser zu werfen; aber sie verboten ihnen das Wort FUCK auf ihre Maschinen zu schreiben... weil es obszön ist. - FREI ZITIERT NACH F.F.COPPOLAS APOCALYPSE NOW" <<

In other words no, it's not getting ported, but maybe BB will!
-------------------- This is what Ive said for the past couple months every time has requested source: BB source is highly unlikely because the mod team (Ironoak) has decided to use the crystal engine to create an rpg, although they have said there is a small chance of going to source but please, for the sake of all mankind, do not request a port and/or create polls, or even useless threads about the porting of BB, because it is most likely not going to happen, thank you for reading.
