Like the descriptions says, these are excerpts from the rp back stories I made for my GMOD RP server. If you guys are interested in playing it after reading this, head over to www.seventhdeathsquad.info and make a post saying who you are and that you came from ironoak. We could always use more serious rpers.

basic back story:
*the recording buzzes to life*
*a voice sounds out “replaying last entry”*

The year is 2032 and we are all that is left. We have banded together in the last bastion of hope in a crude effort to survive the harsh times we have been thrust into. Together with my small forces I, General Varthlokkur Ikonis, try to survive as best we can while searching for a way to reverse the plague that causes madness, a taste for the flesh, and horrible mutations. Currently we hole up in a makeshift town constructed from the remains of an old military base. Once a training center for the National Guard, the town or Outpost #39 as the signs declare it, offers us protection from the ravenous carrion that stalk all of humanity but I fear we should fall for other reasons. Daily we are plagued by a small band of people that reject the safety my city offers. They claim me and my forces to be tyrants and they reject our law. Living on the outskirts of town, they currently seem peaceable enough. However, I fear the fragile alliance we hold as the last of the human race will shatter and we shall be at war. I record this in the event that our city should fall and we get wiped out. Hopefully our species survives and finds this message and never repeats the mistakes of the past...

It all started in 2012 during the hysteria brought on by the so called predictions of the Mayans, and the infectious plague that mutated from various strands of avian and swine flu infections. This plague ate away at the infected host’s body from the inside out, turning its organs black and causing massive lesions to form. From these lesions oozed a black waxy substance that resembled tar. The plague lasted for weeks and killed a one hundredth of the population, until a rushed vaccine was released by the US government. Many nations blamed the US for the plague and thought that seeing as they were the first to come up with a cure, that the disease must have been manufactured there. International tensions rose as countries blamed each other and the threat of war was looming ever near. Seeing the populace’s lack of support for him, president Obama ordered the military to construct a serum that could be easily dispersed through the air to control and pacify and place that contained human populations. Publicly he claimed the facility was to try to anticipate and cure further diseases. Despite his proclamations about the facility being for peace, the world’s nations were not convinced and thus began to order their various spies to infiltrate the installation and learn its secrets. Israeli special forces were the first to infiltrate the research lab. What they recorded scarred the Israeli leaders to the point that they decided some action must be taken against the nation that was responsible for their homeland existing. They took bits of recordings dubbed over them to make it look like the US was developing a flesh eating virus with the intent of unleashing it in Iraq to clear the population and allow the US troops to claim all of the oil in the region. They then secretly released the footage to higher ups in the Iraqi government during Obama’s routine visit to the troops stationed there. Within hours, the military base where he was staying was under siege like never before seen by the troops inside. The desert had erupted in a torrent of human rage. It seemed like the entire population had gone mad. Sometime during the in the ensuing battle, the troops got the idea to try and smuggle the president out. They snuck out in a small convoy through Jordan and tried to gain help from their allies in Israel. Upon entering the city, however, the Israelis opened fire on the group, killing all but the president himself. They had a special fate in mind for he they viewed as the scum of the earth. On the eve of the Jewish holiday known as the Day of Atonement, they publically released videos of what their operatives had found and footage of the president being publically executed. Following that, they broadcasted a call to arms for all nations to raise arms against the country that sought to enslave them all.

While the United States government publically denied any involvement with the facility and stated that Obama had hired private forces to do his bidding, the nations of the world did not believe them. One by one their allies turned on them and ordered them to destroy the facility. US territories that had been peaceful for a long time took up arms and denounced the sovereignty of the US government. As offended as the world was at acts of the United States were, her citizens were even more revolted. Crime rates skyrocketed within the country and the populace started to revolt and systematically attack local politicians, military bases, and any buildings having to do with the government. Torn by loyalties and personal feelings, the various branches of the US military began to break down and split. The National Guard as whole was the single unit to decide that their loyalties belonged to the people they were sworn to protect, rather than the organization that paid them. Publically however, all of the other military branches still supported the government, though much of their forces deserted and joined up with the Guard. As the forces continued to shift and war, what used to be several different branches of the military formed into a single military unit under one unified command. Dubbed the National Preservation Forces, this force was tasked with quelling the National Guard and defending the loyalists from outside forces. As the National Guard, allied with the majority of the worlds armed forces, continued to eradicate the NPF, its leaders made the decision to release the unperfected serum on the world in an attempt to halt their impending doom. They packaged the serum within the warheads of old intercontinental missiles, and launched the missiles at various targets around the globe, including their own nation.

The missiles appeared to be a nuclear attack by nations of the world and in retaliation; they launched their own nuclear arms at the US, hoping to destroy their enemy completely. However the reaction of the nuclear radiation spewed into the atmosphere with the now airborne serum caused a massive mutation in the anatomy of the chemicals in the serum. It now caused people to mutate into tall beings with immense strength and speed. Over time, the mutated bodies of the populace began to regress to their primal nature. That is when things got worse. These … creatures appeared en masse and started bonding themselves to the infected like some sort of parasite. Those taken over by the little monsters lost all reason and began to crave human flesh. They started hunting the small portion of the populace that had been unaffected by the serum and radiation. Gradually, the population of the world dwindled until less than one percent of the human population remained. Those left alive are now doomed to wander the now wasted planet and try to forge some sort of life.

*something clicks*
*the voice again sounds out, “End recording.”*

Back story of the National Guard/the city:
Excerpt from a book entitled The Final Protectors...

As the last defenders of life and liberty, we of the National Guard have come together and decided to scribe our histories so that those who come after us can hold fast to the principles we held dear, and the way we thought things ought to be done. – General Varthlokkur Ikonis, National Guard

Before the streets ran with blood and fire, before screams plagued the night and all lived in constant fear for survival, we were a unit dedicated to the protection of the citizens inhabiting the United States of America. We stood as sentinels against the blackness of foreign and domestic corruption. In those times our unit was stationed in a small armory outpost in Glendale, Arizona. Located next to the old Glendale High building, our armory and outpost served little purpose other than to keep the inhabitants of the city in line. All of this suddenly changed in 2015 after the release of the cure for the deadly corpse flu as they were calling it. We were ordered to relocate to an obscure base in Flagstaff, Arizona to protect and aid those in charge of a program Commander in Chief Obama wanted started. We were told that we were guarding a facility designed to create cures that would protect us from various biochemical attacks. It wasn’t until later, however, that we learned otherwise…

The station was a fairly boring post, as much did not happen. Many of us soldiers joked around that we could up and leave and that building 50 miles down the road would be just fine. As international relations broke down, however, our post got tenser and we were started to get more duties than previously. Suddenly we started receiving combat training aim at citizen suppression and peace keeping. We trained long and hard for reasons we did not wholly understand. All of this changed however, once the president was taken in 2018. The video footage that the Israelis released scarred and haunted us all. Tensions mounted and the region became all but mad. When the war for the country started, our commander, moved by our voices and his own sense of duty, aligned us against the NPF. Secretly we planned for months to take over the base and route out the NPF loyalists while pretending to remain loyal. Our opportunity came in the form of a large scale riot against the base. In the middle of the night on January 4th, 2019, amidst the chaos caused by the numerous citizens besieging the base, we marched out from our barracks fully armed, and began to execute the NPF forces from behind. We slaughtered men that up until a few months ago had been our brethren. Those that hailed us and joined in our attack were left alive and even assimilated into our forces. As the night moved on, the NPF forces were overwhelmed and destroyed. Unfortunately, to secure our power we also had to route the citizens, who resisted fiercely. When we had finally killed enough of them to build a wall of the dead around the base, they retreated, but not before destroying most of the bases vehicles and the bases transmitting equipment.

After having captured the base, we later learned that the facility we had been guarding was preparing to launch several tactical missiles against the homeland herself. We marshaled our forces and began to march into the hills to take control of the facility from what we believed to be an NPF unit intent on taking out various National Guard bases. It took us three days to march on foot up the mountains to come within 2 miles of the facility. We arrived just in time to watch the missiles fly from the distance. We ran the last few miles to the facility and took it by force. The first thing we learned was that it was indeed an NPF outpost, however it was still inhabited by the scientists that had been put to the task of making the government’s “cure”. After interrogating the scientists, we learned of what they were actually doing. In an act of disgust, we proceeded to kill them all and destroy most of their specimens. After making camp in the facility, we decided that it would make a better base than the shit hole we were posted in, which was now a glorified pile of rubble. Our unit moved all the research equipment into a secure room in the bunker that was part of the facility. A day into our work of securing the facility however, the radio equipment in the facility started alerting us to the fact that many nations we planning to launch nuclear weaponry at the now weakened country. Anticipating all out nuclear decimation, we prepared to move into the bunker. In the days leading up to the world blinding, nuclear wave we released radio broadcasts letting any citizens know that they could come to the bunker and survive with us. By the time we sealed up the bunker, around one hundred people had shown up. We wanted to wait for more, but the looming threat of nuclear annihilation was too present. We sealed up the bunker with all the supplies and people we could get. Shortly after, the missiles fell and the last thing our base’s surveillance equipment showed us, was a wall of fire spreading from 30 miles away heading in our direction.

For years we lived in those cramped quarters, waiting for the nuclear radiation to die down enough for us to go out and try to rebuild our lives. The only small convenience we had was that somehow the small power plant in the facility could be stocked from the bunker, so we had utilities. Our commander, driven mad by the pressure, started to rule with an iron fist, alienating the citizens under our protection. In the ten long years that we lived in that bunker, tensions grew and eventually we had to start executing people to keep the peace. When the day finally came that we could leave the bunker, all we saw around us was wasteland. Nothing lived, and everything was destroyed save for a few buildings around us. As a group we decided to try and make a town here. Over his underlings’ objections, our commander treated the people as slave labor and he forced them to do the brunt of the work while not having any freedoms. Harsh tyrannical rule was enforced and those that did not agree were exiled. Those that committed crimes were executed publicly and their bodies dumped out in the harsh waste land. We lived this way not bothered by any but our own kind until we started running low on food. After five years our stocks were so low that we had to launch raiding parties. We pulled the few vehicles out of the base that we could, but after unloading four vehicles, the hangar we were pulling them out of collapsed and forced us to abandon the rest. Using these few vehicles, we sent convoys across the wastes to get food and bring it back. At first they had found towns uninhabited and brought back good hauls of food, but gradually they started reporting that some strange creatures were starting to appear. First they appeared in small numbers and were easily killed, but as time went on, more and more appeared. Eventually raiding parties had to stop because they had begun migrating closer to town. Shortly after we stopped the raiding parties, they attacked the town.

The battle was long and hard. The damned things were fast and strong, and damned hard to kill. Eventually we beat them back, however not before a fourth of the remaining National Guard had been killed and the wall surrounding our town was completely obliterated. Following the battle, our commander forced all people to stay within the city walls, and refused to take any of the many refugee’s that had flocked to the small town. He started executing more people and angering most of the population. Many people were exiled during that time and tensions grew to the point where the people were poised to revolt on us. Fearing that they would be torn apart by the citizens, we had many deserters. Some of these deserters allied themselves with those that were exiled and formed a resistance that attacked the city regularly. For two years we warred on in veritable stalemate. On the eve of one such battle, the General Jessep suffered a fatal aneurysm and died. Being the highest ranking soldier under the former general, I took command and we eventually won the battle. After that I worked to ease the tensions between the soldiers and the citizens. We opened the city to refugees and ended the executions for all but the most serious of crimes. Without being under the rule of a tyrannical dictator, town became mostly passive. The tools in the city allowed bits of scrap to be turned into working items, turning the city into a center of trade. Scraps slowly became a form of currency for us, because they could be used to make tools, and things such as firearms. We found and odd sort of prosperity during this time, buoyed by the fact that I had even managed to strike a sort of peace treaty with the resistance group. They delighted in the ability to get crucial life sustaining items from the city. Sadly though, they were still too wary of my rule to assimilate back into us fully. Due to this, we in the National Guard offer them no protection from the hazards of the wasteland, and in return we do not interfere with their workings unless they directly threaten us or the city we protect. This peace has carried us through the this the year 2032, and I hope that it continues.
