If someone could go step by step on how to make outside look outside id really appreciate it, i can make indoor maps but how to make the sky n stuff? Or even night time with stars . Thx!

look up tutorials on google on how to do skyboxes and such.

Yeah, look up tutorials on the Valve wiki or on Google. Make sure they're for HL1 though.

ok, sorry if ive stressed this too much, but id reeeaalllllyyy like a city map. maybe with some drivable vehicles that are on a plotted out track like the ones in meck_map. either that or like a map of one of the levels from RE4 maybe???

hes obviously very new to mapping, hes not going to be able to do all that.

Well im not totally NEW to mapping, i know how to get weapons, apply certain textures to certain walls. I've made a map where i had a ak-47 in a lil bunker that looks toward zombie spawn and people liked it. It would take me some time to make a city, but i can do it.

a map isnt necessarily good if people 'like' it. if some people just like to play funmaps (maps where not a lot of time are put into, think fy_iceworld) then yeah you'll get some positive replies. but others, including me, look for uniqueness, personal touch, and good brushes and textures in a map. if you can make a map look good and play well, then thats a great accomplishment. dont let people tell you what maps to make, just think of your own, its better to stay unique.

Well wouldnt MORE people want to play what they asked for? Its kinda like if u took at poll for ice cream and 50% wanted choc. u wanna make sure u have enough (or in my case, the right map) to satisfy there desire. I would like my map to be popular, doesnt every map maker want that? i think so, so thats why i asked

What about an old hotel? Just plop players in random rooms on different floors and have them try to get to the roof.

Just think of what you could do with the lighting on an office map.

how about an RPG map, like something from Land of The Dead? You know, its like an FPS/RPG set in the city in Land of The Dead before the zombies attacked. idk, i thought itd be kinda cool, a shoot'em up FPS/RPG zombie level.
