Please report any bugs you've found in Public-Enemy version 1.4 here. I need a detailed description of how to reproduce the bug, or at least a description of what happend just before the bug appeared if you are unable to reproduce it. E.g. "PE crashes all the time" is _no_ bugreport, it's just a statement that may be true for your system.
Logfiles and console output may also be helpfull.

Alright, nice to see PE up and kicking still.

Now, on my older computer I get an error when using public enemy. While joining a server or creating one the game crashes with an illegal operation message. This seems to happen when the graphics load. I have tried the debugging options and then some (different resolutions, windowed mode, software mode). Once I did get as far as the graphics loaded. But it was for about 1.5 seconds and then it crashed.

Here are the specifics of the illegal error message:

Windows 98
512 mb RAM
GeForce FX 5200
Pentium 4 2 GHz
Avance AC97 Audio card

I will have to try it on my new PC later today. Was a great mod back when I first tried it on my really old PC, laggy then though, hope it was fixed.

Are you using steam? If not: I don't know if PE runs on non-steam HL.

- Can you play other mods?
- Does it work when you rename liblist_nobots.gam to liblist.gam in the PE directory.
- If it still crashes with all the PE specific options disabled (not only debug) then I don't think that PE causes the crash, because I made all the special stuff about PE optional. If everything fails try deleting the .cg files in penemy\addons
- Last option: Reinstall PE using the full installer from http://213.239.195.152/~penemy/public-enemy-v1.4.exe

I tried that liblist renaming before I had to go. Didn't fix it. I will try that addon directory files deletion on monday.

All PE specific options disabled also did not seem to correct when I tried it earlier. Will have to try all 3 suggestions at once. But for now I will enjoy PE on my new computer.

Already reinstalled twice.

This is a PE specific problem however, I have tried other mods and they are running fine. I am running steam and not original half-life.

Thats strange... you could also try deleting the fmod.dll. Make sure "cl_glow" and "r_detailtextures" are 0.
Also a logfile would be nice (type "log on" and start a game, the file will be in penemy\logs).

I tried the other suggestions, no luck. When I tried to create a log it came out as 0 bytes size and when I tried to open it in notepad (just a guess as to what program to use) it came out blank, despite even trying to use console commands to get recorded onto a log.

When I try to run HL after getting that error message (no restarting computer) I get the following message:

I will try to run all my other mods to see if any of them are also having problems, though I was able to run the specialists so far. EDIT: The other mods ALL work. This is definately a PE exclusive problem.

Oh and public enemy works fine on my new computer, just want to get it working on the old one when my good comp isn't available.

Then it's probably an incompatibility issue with windows 98... Please try this dll: http://www.ironoak.ch/PE/files/client.dll if it still doesn't work also set cl_fontsys to 0 (which only exists in this new dll).
You won't be able to join server with this dll, tho.

As of late I've been having a problem on the #1 server (I haven't encountered the problem on the other servers yet) with massive FPS drops on the hacking maps (pe_bladerunner, pe_titanium, and pe_darksun). What's odd about it is that the fps drop only occurs on one area of the map, though the exact area can vary over playtime.

Whatever the cause is, as soon as I enter the area, my framerate drops to around 1-4 fps, making gameplay nearly impossible; however, after I leave the area things return to normal.

The areas I have encountered the problem so far are as follows:

pe_titanium - the snowy area by the snowside terminal, the Security Corps. spawn, the lower connecting hallway between the Syndacite spawn and the snowside terminal

pe_bladerunner - both spawn points, both terminal areas, and the area between the Syndacite spawn and the two terminals

pe_darksun - both terminal areas


If I find anything else about the framerate drop or I encounter it in other areas, I'll report it here.

I've only encountered it in bladerunner so far... I thought it's the rain/snow but if it also occurs in darksun then this idn't possible...
It could be the lens flare effect. I had to rewrite several parts of it an it was never testet in multiplayer before the release, so probably I've missed something. But it's strange that it only happens on pe_ maps huh.gif
well... I'll compare the differences in the gamerules between these two modes, probably I'll find something.

Because we use nearly the same maps as in other pe-versions it could not be the map itself. I think it has something to do with the code. I´ve checked all the maps and r_speeds, textures & brushwork are not corrupted in any of them.

Not much related to the problem I suppose though. Lately it has been crashing without the error message, just locking up and the music if it actually started playing will start looping on the same few seconds.

just wanted to comment on some stuff i spotted.

first of i spotted that when i was going without any weapons (except the knife) there was still a weapon listed in group 3 but with no ammo so therefor unselectable.

allso, when dieing (or new round) with toggle crouch active one starts out with the viewpoint in standing height bit with the speed of crouch, hitting crouch 2 times fixes it but is a bit anoying...

hey i have been encountering red_wizards problem with the drop of FPS and they only seem to happen when im at 1 of the particular hacking stops. But i was playing pe the other day and this problem didnt happen.

I like it how you guys actually help people when they need. Unlike sum other mods(cough, cough..........counterstrike). And also Gamearena australia may review public-enemy to c if its good enough to host sum servers.

The eqsave.dll didn't seem to fix it. Got the same error message as I was getting before.

Maybe that incompatibility issue idea is the cause. I have little problem running other games with some of the addons and new features PE brings. Star Was Galaxies comes to mind (particle systems, weather effects and the like).

As a followup to the FPS drops, while playing on server #5 today on pe_bladerunner I noticed the area that the drop would occur switched more times than usual, and it always switched to whichever area I had just finished killing the bots in. Specifically, it would swap between this area by the Pipeline terminal and the T-shaped walkway between the two terminal areas.

I have also managed to produce the same FPS drop-effect on a LAN server created on my machine, using 3 bots; however, I have only encountered the drop in the area by the Pipeline terminal in pe_bladerunner on a local server.
