Nope, even the "sweet" spot on the head is NOT a 1 hit kill, I was just on ABC's server, picked up the revolver, and my eyes glazed over as it took 1 to 4 headshots to put them down. Shooting the side of the head seemingly does less damage... Sometimes they went down in a single shot, sometimes 2, sometimes 3 or 4...
As for my aim, yes, they were hitting the head, trust me on that ![]() -------------------- BB Maps I've made...

Lag, against a zombie standing still with only one person on the server?

The "no hit" bug is actually caused by lag. This is because of the way HL processes the "hit" checks and the way zombies movement is calculated. As you might already know HL uses server-side hit detection, which means that every shot you do is send to the server, which checks what you hit and than transmits that data to your client. This, however, takes some time (ping), so instead of waiting for the answer of the server the client also calculates your shots and the result of this calculation is what you can see. This calculation however, isn't necessarily equal to what the server has calculated.
You could, for example, shoot a weapon with a very big CoF (cone of fire= the circle in which your shots land) and your client would say you hit the ceiling, while the server says you've hit the ground in front of your feet. Although you've actually hit the ground, you'll see the bullet hole on the ceiling. This is also true for zombie parts: Your shot might have completely missed the target, but you're shown a hit (blood, parts missing etc.). Also lag or high ping might prevent the server from telling you that your target has died before you shoot it a second time. Now for the zombie movement it's very similar. The server sends information of where the zombie is heading and the client will calculate the movement until he receives another update on the zombies heading. This, depending on the ping, may cause zombies to be shown on a different position than they actually are. The only way to prevent you from missing such a "fake" target is to make the zombie come straight towards you. Since every part of the zombie movement will be in line towards you, it won't matter if he's closer or father away from you, because your shot will follow the same line as the zombie. |

Which is why we should really try to stay away from these types of weapons on the current HL system.

renegade, what i ment was, it is on the to do list, but its around the bottom of the list.
when i say, there are more pressing matters, means it will get fixed *after* all the other stuff has been fixed. the reason why it was added because it would be fun to have another weapon, and it'd be a 1 shot kill. which it is, on all occasions, at 1 difficulty. if that gets increased, or there are like 10 players on the server, the weapon still does the same amount of damage. but the zombies have more HP. |

I found that if I shoot at a slightly upward angel into the chin its a 1 hit kill...like if a crouch like 10 feet from them and shoot. -------------------- ![]() |

If I hate something or someone, I will go out of my way to find a reason to like it. Ask anyone on my server. When I play, I ALWAYS try to use the revolver as much as possible. Sounds wierd for someone who hates it right? Wrong, if I hate something, I play it as much as possible to either: a) try and find something I like about it or b.) confirm why I hate it. And since I am in the process of doing this with the revolver, I realized that I probably would be able to find something I like about it *if* at least a muzzle flash would be included on it. Just because I disagree or dislike something, doesn't mean I don't want to see it blossom and improve. On the contrary, *because* you hate something should be all the more reason for one to want to see it improve! ![]() p.s. @ TSS, sounds good that its on the to do list. But since its just a simple sprite file, think you could bump it up a couple places? I know a little about Half-Life game programming, and sprite/muzzle flashes are pretty easy to do, no? p.s. Just to help you invision what I'm seeing: 44mag Muzzle Flash -------------------- |

i cant say if it will get bumped, thats up to the devs, maybe if spin's bored with fixing bugs he'll do something like that.
but you of course understand that, if we have a game chrashing bug or a big model glitch that thats first to fix, not a simple sprite. |

Of course yes. Deal with the majors first.
But I just cant help but be reminded of when you ask someone a question that requires a yes or no answer and they say: "I can't answer you right now, I'm too busy to talk" which leaves you scratching your head wondering: "well, in the time that he/she said that, they could have answered my question" I guess what I'm saying by that is: I understand how hectic things can get, but if you have time to write 60+ lines of code to add the revolver, adding just a couple more lines to inlude a muzzle flash shouldn't be all that much of a bothersome Don't take that the wrong way though, I'm still content enough that its at least on the to-do list. ![]() -------------------- |

OMG UBER HAXOR COVERT OPS REVOLVER HAS AN INVISIBle FLASH HIDER!!!! Sry, no1 said that yet, and I think you have the power of a median.^^ Anyway, about some of the shooting of the revolver in the previous posts, I think you can't get a headshot if you're near. You can get one if you're near, but you have to aim a little to the left or right, not right at his forehead or between his eyes. Also, I found that the revolver is most accurate when you are some distance away from the zombie. I got a whole lot of headshots when I was not too far, but not too near. |
