Apparently it has been brought to my attention by some players that the skills now do nothing except help crosshair calming and let you use weapons .. why has the dev team decided to remove the increasing damage factor?

Is this a bug, or an intended change? Because if you wanted to make the game harder in general, I think just decreasing the AMOUNT by which the skills multiply damage would be sufficient, rather than just taking it away alltogethor, because now you only need 15~ points of skill and the rest goes into everything else, which completely negates the feat of 'balancing your skills', since players with a 0-0-62 skill count usually are very prone to being zombified and such ..

I didn't decrease the amount given per skill nor did I remove the dmg increase completely.

It is to say that the damage increase only works on npc zombies.

Thats odd, because with ~54 skill I could kill zombies with one barrel of the sawn off (and they have full health), and now I can't .. and the 10% base increase shouldn't make a differance because I lowered the difficulty to 130% on the server as well

I'm not sure what it is, but yes I find the same too. When I restarted my server on 1.2, I noticed that zombies were *much* harder to kill. At first I thought it was my difficulty setting, but I checked, it wasn't. For some reason, pre 1.2 I was able to kill a zombie with a few head/chest shots from my shotgun/m16, now I find I have to put entire clips into them.....

You also have to take into account how many people are playing....
The more players, the more health zombies have.

Well, I did a test with the Winchester and Stoner on a regular server (brainbread 1.2 server kinda thing) I got to level 20 (so as to get 100% damage increase with 20 skill) and here are my results:

Winchester with zero skill

1 hit head kills (out of 40):

32

2 hit Head kills (out of 40):

6

3 hit head kills (out of 40):

2

Winchester with 20 skill:

1 hit head kills (out of 40)

30

2 hit head kills (out of 40)

7

3 hit head kills (out of 40)

3


So, just that proof would say that the damage increase doesnt work. This very well could be related to the bug in 1.0 and 1.1 where if you died, all the skills you had placed took no effect anymore, and unless u rejoined the server every time you died or turned zombie, your skills (including HP and Speed) we're counted at zero, but if you had 10 skill, you could still use all the weapons.

Maybe the no skill dmg is permanent now or something, or maybe damage increase only counts for body hits? (or maybe theres a bug with animation that makes you think you hit their head but didnt... or something.)

The stoner results were pretty much the same btw, with skill, 33 1 hit head kills, without, 35.

There are quite a few varibles left to chance in your experiment.

- Zombie movement
- Angles of shots
- Movement of player
- Crouched or not
- Location on the zombie's head that is hit

Note that not every head shot effects the zombie the same way. Shooting at the overlapping hitboxes that reside around the forehead assure a one hit kill with a high powered weapon, while a shot to (our) left will most likely not be fatal.

Another thing, 20 skill gives 150% damage bonus. (20 points x 7.5%) It is no longer 5% per point.

Actually, immoral, just for fun I made a listen server for myself to try out bb_bayou before putting it onto ABC (its good, but its laggy .. big! =o )

And on normal difficulty, if you use either a winchester or a revolver, no matter what, even at 0 skill level, it will one hit kill. (This is assuming if you get a clear shot at it, or if its moving in a linear pattern towards you)

Obviously not. Theres no way you can one hit kill when a zombies twitching when its trying to go up the stairs to get to you, but as long as you have a clear shot then its a one hit kill!

Even if its moving laterally to you, away from you, or is standing still, 99% of the time you will get a one hit kill. Unless its an aiming error on your part, but my experiment is to basically prove that the damage skills code does not seem to be working.

How does your test prove that the code does not work? You are using 1 hit kill weapons and killing in one hit, nothing special.

Though I'm now tempted to run my own experiment on the matter....

Stop it immoral, I made sure they were NOT moving, I aimed for right above the mouth while crouching every time. You know you don't need to discredit EVERYTHING people say. (sorry rough day)

That's my experiment, do your own on 130% if you care to challenge it, quit tossing logic about. Spin or a Dev, please consider this, as the unsureity is very frustrating.


(And immoral, with 150% damage increase, id say that no matter how many hit boxes i hit with the stoner, it should kill. All im reporting is that if ANY damage increase is actually there, it is maybe up to 30-35% max, at 60 some skill.)

I don't care, argue to your hearts content you seem to love that, but this IS bugged, something is quite wrong, and needs to be considered.
