What about using a func_push and func_door_rotating? the func_push to get people out of the way and all the door to open (otherwise you risk it being closed and staying that way) and have the func_door_rotating swing open 90 degrees very quickly? I know there was a way do get this effect to work in Quake2... but I don't think Half-Life has the entity needed. Does Half-Life have a simple entity that will follow paths and rotate at nodes? -------------------- Still mapping away!! |

Actually that's not a bad idea. I only set the doors to break because one door was split up into several smaller chunks, so that I could make the door's window see-through (and also because when the door was opened you'd still see the zombie shadow there). I could just take that door out and replace it another one like the front door, make them both spring open when triggered and stay open.
Edit: Done. Also done: The r_speed issue (mostly). Now I just need to prod those lazy good-for-nothing zombies into overcoming their performance anxiety and coming into the damn pub. I think part of the problem is the zombies (at the front entrance at least) are spawning facing away from the entrance. I'm curious as to how I can fix this... I know there's some way to get zombies to come in at a steady pace (Nighthouse comes to mind). This post has been edited by Zuwahmbi on February 05, 2005 05:06 am |

Look for an angle setting. You should be able to set which direction the zombies face with that.

otherwise, set a func_convoyur on the ground outside of the pub under the zombies. but that will only work if players cant get out of the pub.
i use this on my winchester. works well at me. -------------------- I don´t suffer from iNsAnItY, I enjoy every second of it

Well, got my first playable version of the map uploaded. Now just have to wait until it gets listed, then put up on a proper server. It's just the main bar right now, with no missions/marines/barneys and all that jazz. Basically I just wanted to show what I have so far to get comments, suggestions, and so on.
Now that I've watched (and re-watched) Shaun of the Dead... turns out the pub layout is a bit different than I remembered. The bar counter actually wraps around, leading into a back area with more booths/tables. I'll get around to mapping that out later, along with the back room with the breakers and the cellar. On the cellar front, I'm considering just making the cellar one big escape zone, rather than putting in all that business with the elevator and what-have-you. For one thing, it'd be a pain in the ass to set up, and another thing.. the elevator would be too small for the ideal number of 5-6 players. So basically, the level will end when you reach the cellar (probably just a big black box). Aaaanyhow, map should be up shortly. Cheers. |

Not a bad idea, the only question would be which door I'd use. Maybe the front door. Keep it locked (well, shut at least), then at the end have the marines (or better yet... wait for it... Shaun) kick the door in as everybody scrambles for the cellar. Also, keeping the front door closed would take some of the heat off the people behind the bar. Good suggestion! (Okay, I changed it a bit, but still)
Also, as per my earlier post: The unfinished map is now up, if anybody wishes to try it out (haven't got much of a response yet, maybe everybody gave up on me ![]() |

Yeah, thought that'd be a sticking point. But I assumed you all would figure it out eventually. It'll all make more sense in the final (when I get the breakers implemented).

Well, I now have the whole main pub area, including the back portion not really shown in the film, and an additional connecting room (will probably be a dishwashing/storage area). Now all I need to do is make the hallway with the fusebox, the cellar door, and place a few mission bits in (oh, and triggers.. can't forget those).
I'm trying to find a good ending juke song, something to play as all manner of hell breaks loose and every remaining door/window busts in and the zombies become overwhelming (in theory...). Don't want it to be too obvious, nor do I want a damn nu-metal/rap-metal/any-kind-of-metal song. I was thinking "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed, or "Surfin' Dead" by The Cramps (from "Return of the Living Dead"), but I'm open to any suggestions. |
