Hey everyone, got a new modem a few days ago (old was was burnt out, speed was getting cut in half)
And i want to join the army of people with dedicated servers. Ive tried to make a HLDS since the stone-age but never really managed to get it done. Always ran into problems with port-forwarding, and some "Access-Control List" But ive got a new comp, new modem, and when BB first came out, i made a server to play LAN with my neighbor (since thats all ive ever been able to do) and a whole bunch of people joined. NOT from LAN. So anyway, here's my specs, id like some instructions on what to do next, as im nearly clueless. Athlon 64 3200+ 1 gig dual channel ddr ram (kingston) ummm... well since u dont need my gaming specs, I guess thats the general crap ull need, if more is needed to help, ill give it up  Upload speed is 350 kbps. (not sure if thats enough, but only aiming for 6 people.) When I try to make a server right now, 2 things happen #1, No one joins anymore. #2, I use all the IP addresses i can find that could possibly be mine (did check off internet, everything, not 100% sure how to figure out what im WAN ip is.) Im considering the port forwarding thing, but If i need that how do i explain all those people joining? I have no software firewall as well. An Update, people can join my server, same as normal.
but when they DO, and type status, it says my ip is 192.168.0.5:27015 <- Clearly a LAN ip. I do the search on gametiger, tah-dah my server shows up, but the ip is 68.144.218.19:32875 <- a WAN ip, wierd port, and it doesnt respond no one can see it. Can someone please help me out i really dont understand -------------------- Ode to Immoral, The very mean mod

Okay gained a bit more ground, apparently im completely visible from the outside
now. I raised the max level to 100, and heres what i want to do: I want max skill to be 35, max hp to be 25, and max speed to be 40. I would like to increase the difficulty so that its as hard as macs server (130%) but without the ultra slow movement, id like to speed up the base movement at least... any tips? -------------------- Ode to Immoral, The very mean mod

And again, another request. I'd like as much info on keeping my server fast an optimized as you can spare. Instructions on putting in a working metamod/adminmod etc would be cool as well. ^^ thanks in advance (i hope)

You can't have that difficulty and not be slow...its part of the difficulty...it makes it so you can't outrun the zombies as easy... Umm I dunno about the dedicated server stuff that much... |

Neither of those can be done with the current set of server varibles. Though I do believe Spin was thinking about adding three varibles that would let you set the max levels.
Use this command: sv_difficulty 1.3 -------------------- BB Maps I've made...

Well, umm, how did mac raise the max skill/speed/hp of his server?
Can anyone give me a set of commands to put in so that my clients may get better ping? (100-150ish atm) -------------------- Ode to Immoral, The very mean mod

It is a side effect (more specifically, a function) of the increased difficulty.
Mac forces a certain rate and cl_rate on players, and that helps to a small extent. How he does it, I do not know. And as for anything else, I know not of it. -------------------- BB Maps I've made...
