Chapter 1

Steve woke up to the sound of gunfire and barking. "What the F---?!" were the first words that came out of his mouth. As he tumbled out his bed, he looked out his bedroom window and didn't see anything but the same street that has always been there ever since he moved to that house a couple weeks ago.

He lived alone with his dog, Max. He quickly dialed 911 to report the shots but the line was busy. "What the F---?!" were the second set of words that came out of his mouth. He moved into that neighborhood because he though it was safe but it was quite unusual that the first time he ever dialed 911, it was busy. More shots can be heard outside, though he did not know where they came from.

He then put on some pants and shirt and opened his dresser. Sitting inside was none other than his Springfield XD pistol. Steve tried 911 again, but the line was still busy. He loaded it and went to his front door, pistol in hand. As he opened it, he saw an empty street. Then he heard some loud sirens...

Chapter 2

When Steve was cautiously exited his house, the sirens got louder meaning they are coming towards him. Then he noticed where the shots came from as he looked to the right of him. Several dozen feet out, he saw a man standing on top of a car holding a rifle and another guy lieing dead on the street, covered in blood.

He was not the first person to have been disturbed by the gun shots, as some of his neighbors were outside too. He was not sure what the hell was going on so he aimed his pistol at the guy on the car. The guy on the car aimed his rifle back at Steve's direction and fired. Steve then noticed a guy that was not farther than 10 feet next to him head's was blown off that second. Steve fired several rounds of .357 SIG at the guy on the car, but missed thanks to extreme massive shock and tunnel vision.

The guy on the car yelled to Steve, "Dont shoot me im not infected!!!" Steve then saw some police cars drive PAST the street they were on and felt like this situation was not going to get any better. That was when he noticed his neighbors were approaching him with blank expressions, dried blood on their faces, and outstretched arms...

Chapter 3

Steve had seen several zombie movies and automatically knew what his neighbors had turned into. He made his conclusion by watching some zombies kneeling at a corpse on the other side of the street and saw some intestines and random stomach matter being consumed.

Steve had two choices: be a hearty breakfast to start the day for those zombies or run back into his house. As he ran back inside, something came out. Max, his dog jumped at a random zombie and knocked it down. Steve immeditally yelled at Max to come back inside but got Max was busy wrestling with the zombie. Steve then fired his handgun into the approaching zombies and thankfully, they came down after he unloaded his clip. He grabbed Max and ran inside.

That moment he remembered the rifle guy on the car. He looked out the window and saw him running towards Steve's house. Steve quickly unlocked the door to let him in.

Very nice. I love your writing style but this isn't that well written. It is seriously laking description of the protaginist's emotions and descriptions of the surroundings. I loved the bit about the intestines but that was about the only bit of description. Try some stuff like "his dark hair ruffled in the wind" just stuff like that helps the atmosphere.

Chapter 4

Steve was only 21 years old and had never seen someone die before. Right now, his whole body was trembling because of shock and disbelief of what is going on in his street.

As the rifle guy introduced himself, Steve found out he had a real name. "My name is Bucky Miller, whats yours?", asked the middle-aged man still holding his rifle. Steve stuttered S-S-Steve, Steve Peterson. As Steve was still trying to calm down, Bucky was reloading his rifle. "Have you been bitten?", asked Bucky. "No", replied Steve.

As Steve finnally collected himself, he asked, "W-what the hell is going on in this town? Bucky replied, "Dont ask me, I was just drinking my morning coffee and then I heard some screaming outside then people were eating each other" Steve went to the phone while Bucky turned on the TV. Steve is getting fustrated because 911 is still busy. Steve gave up and joined Bucky in front of the TV.

As the TV got warmed up, there was nothing but static. Bucky changed the station to the local news. Static. Bucky tried another local news station and finnally got a working channel. There was a news anchor talking about the current events.

A message was posted on the bottom of the screen collected Steve and Bucky's attention. It read: BIOHAZARD WARNING. WATER SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED WITH A UNKNOWN VIRUS OR PARASITE. THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN SUBJECT TO BIOTERRORISM.

Chapter 5

Steve and Bucky stared at the tevivision in disbelief as footage of zombies and carnage is being displayed. The news anchor is talking about what is being shown.

"Dont drink the tap water, it is contaminated. That is how the infection spread so fast. The virus eliminates sophisicated brain functions... the only thing it leaves is hunger. The infected people will stop at nothing to kill you and your family. If you know anyone that has been bitten, they are infected. It is only a matter of time before they turn. Please do the right thing before it is too late."

Steve knew what do do. He went to the closet and took out his backpack. It was already filled with general supplies and water and medical items. He purchased those supplies a few years back when 9/11/01 happened. Behind his packpack was a .22 rifle he used for target practice. He then went into the kitched to collect some food, though his stomach had no appitite after what he just seen.

Then he went into his bedroom and packed some clothes and got some more supplies from the bathroom. Bucky was waiting in the living room still watching the TV. Max the dog was sitting by his food bowl looking pathetic and hungry. Steve almost forgot poor Max so he quickly fed the dog.

Steve came back into the living room with several bags, holding his car keys, and and his rifle, said to Bucky, "It is time to leave the city".

Chapter 6

As Steve cautiously opened the door, with Bucky covering him, Max restrained on a leash, they exited the house. They carefully stepped over the corpses while juggling several bags to Steve's car. He had a Ford Mustang which he got several months ago as a graduation present.

His dark hair ruffled in the wind. They heard some distant screams and sirens as he surveyed the street and noticed several helicopters in the morning sky. they could see some zombies few and far between. They wern't worth killing as Steve and Bucky only had limited ammo. They crammed their bags and Max into the back seats and hopped into the front seats.

The street was silent untill the engine started. The second Steve turned the ignition key, the zombies were attracted to the noise. But before they became a threat, Steve and Bucky were already driving away. Bucky needed to go to his house and collect his things so Bucky showed Steve where his house was several houses down.

Chapter 7

As they neared Bucky's house which was really just several houses down across the street, they slowed down and stopped in front of his driveway wich was occupied with a pickup truck. Steve decided to wait outside and stand guard outside while Bucky gathered his things.

Now Steve had a .22 rifle that he used for targets. It was a Marlin bolt-action. He always wondered how powerful it was since it shot such a small cartridge. Can it be used aginst zombies? Then he head Max barking from inside the car. As soon as he saw why he was barking, he cocked his rifle and aimed at the zombie slowly approaching him.

That zombie used to have a life, but now it is just that: a zombie. No feelings, no friends, no dignity... Then he recognized face of who that zombie was under the crusted blood and ripped clothes. It was Mrs. Lynn, his next door neighbor. She was a little old lady that lived with her husband and helped Steve get adjusted to his new home by giving him a phone book and some maps as a welcome gift.

He then felt sorry that she had to die in such a terrible way. But she wasn't dead. She was right there in front of him. Steve shruddered, he didn't want to shoot her but when she opened her mouth and let out a pitiful, hungry moan, that was a gristly reminder of what she is now.

His question was awnsered when he pulled the trigger, a red dot formed on her rotting forehead. The frail Mrs. Lynn went down quietly in one shot. His .22 rifle is deadly to zombies. Or at least old, decaying ones.

Chapter 8

Steve was waiting for several minutes, taking pot shots at zombies with his rifle. When he was finished using up the rest of his clip, there was several dead corpses lying on the street.

In the background, he could hear other gunshots and screams. He looked around and saw some more helicopters but they were too far to signal for help.

As he turned back to the car to reload his rifle, Max started to bark again. He then noticed a zombie that was between him and his car. Where the hell did he come from?! All his ammo was in the car so he ran up to the zombie and smacked it on the head with his rifle. A part the zombie's peeling face got removed from the blow and they landed on the dry street.

As Steve hurried to snatch his pistol from the car, the zombie started to twitch. He cocked it and fired a .357 SIG round into the zombie's head. The rest of it just shattered.

As Max's barking died down, he could hear Bucky's front door open. Bucky was standing there with a backpack and some duffel bags and his trusty hunting rifle.

Several moments later, as Steve looked over to the distance, he heard some screaming. Then there were three people being chased by dozens of zombies all coming down his street. Bucky yelled, "Hey over here!" The three people that were being chased heard and came running to their direction.

Bucky put his stuff back inside his house and Steve took his ammo out the car and grabbed his dog Max, and they waited at the door as the 3 other people came running thru.

Chapter 9

The three people that just came running out of nowhere managed to get inside safely. One of them was a female cop, another was a black man, and the other was a fat guy that had a large bite mark on his arm. There was blood pouring out of it.

All three of them were armed. The cop was armed with a standard issue Glock. The black man had the cop's baton, and the fat guy had a baseball bat.

All 3 of these newcomers were obviously exausted because they were panting and covered in sweat though it was cold day. The fat guy then collapsed on the carpet before anybody could say anything.

"Are you all right?", asked Steve. The black guy responded, "He (pant) was bitten (pant) a few minutes ago by one of those (pant) crazy bastards". The fat guy said, "Damn (pant) my arm hurts like a bitch (pant)". The cop added, "Our blockade (pant) was overrun a few minutes (pant) ago".

Bucky said, "We were about to get the hell out of here. Wanna join us after we patch up your friend?". The cop said, "The roads are too dangerous (pant) those crazed zombies have this place overrun. The whole country is not much different (pant) than this place anyways."

That moment the fat guy stopped panting and started to stand back up. "Whats wrong with your face?", asked the black guy.

Chapter 10

"Look out!" screamed the Cop as the fat guy jumped at Bucky's face. They both fell and Max started to bark again making an enormous amount of noise and confusion while Bucky and the fat man were wrestling all over the floor. "He turned into one of those things!" yelled the Black guy. The Cop then grabbed the fat guy's baseball bat that was laying on the floor and swung it at the fat zombie guy's head, automatically killing it with the heavy blow.

"Are you all right?" Steve asked to Bucky as he was getting back up. "Augh that man could have used some tic-tacs. Yea i'm fine, thanks umm... misses for saving my life". "My name is Dianne, and thank you for letting us inside", said Dianne, the cop. "My name is Bucky and this here is Steve". "That man... did anyone of you know him?", asked Steve. "No, he just followed us when we ran from the blockade", awnsered the Black guy. "Whats your name?", asked Bucky. "Derrick"

"So what are we going to do next?", asked Derrick as he handed the baton to Dianne and traded it for the baseball bat. "The streets are too dangerous, me and Derrick can both agree with that", said Dianne. "Well we were actually just about to leave this neighborhood untill you guys showed up", awnsered Bucky. "Umm guys... you might just want to look out the windows", said Steve.

Just a small inconsistency, in Chapter 9, the black man knew who he was, then in Chapter 10 everyone said they had no clue. Very minor, though.
