I've been working on this for about a week I guess. Its still in the alpha stages, but it should be ready for beta within a couple of days.

Map info:

The newspapers carried the stories for days. "Monsters sighted in sewers",
"Citizen viciously attacked", "Hundreds missing". The police were on tv,
they assured everyone that there was no need for concern. They said they
were looking into it.

Then it happened, the horde appeared.

They were in the streets, they were in people's homes, they were attacking
everyone. The police thought it was a riot, they were wrong. They tried
to subdue the horde and were nearly decimated. Unable to handle the rising
death toll and the growing horde, the city decided to seal the infected
districts in the hopes that the virus could be contained. The clean districts
were to be evacuated one by one. Your district was next on the list, but
the barricades didn't hold and now its infected. The only way
out was the east road, but a tanker truck crashed in the confusion and is
blocking it. You've only got 1 chance:

1) The horde is everywhere! Help the Police force subdue the horde!
2) A briefcase with valuable information about the outbreak has been lost
in your district. Find it and bring it to the Police force.
3) A mutated zombie is spreading the virus through the sewers.
Find him and destroy him.
4) Another wave of the undead has arrived! Push them back!
5) The police have a radio you can use to call the EVAC helicopter.
Call the chopper and get to the roof of the apartment building.

I might change the missions between now and the first beta.

Its good, by try to scale your building textures so windows arent the size of human heads and clip the roads diagonally so you have the lines intersect.

I guess its kinda hard to see, but the building textures are scaled so that the doors match the player size (from his pov, meaning in firstperson the door handle comes up to about the waist). The windows are therefor the same scale, so they should be more or less the right size. For the textures where its just windows I scaled the windows to be about the size of a door, to make the building look more skyscraper-ish.

I'll take your suggestion about the roads into consideration, but I don't really think I'll change them. The lines don't intersect at intersections because that's how they're painted where I live, and I'm using alot of my hometown as inspiration. There is one intersection I probably should apply it too, and that's the corner just to the right of the police car in the last screenshot.

Thanks for all the input everyone happy.gif .

Even if the roads dont intersect "where you live" you should still clip them, I regard anything such as non clipped roads as laziness on the mapper's part. and also, some of the windows are clearly small and you said something about doors? I dont see a single door.

Hey , skullky, bring out one of your BB maps, and we will point out every little flaw we dont like and call you lazy.

Look at the pictures closer, there are doors, not all windows have to be the same size, and if that is how the roads are where he lives, and they are the inspiration for his roads, deal with it, you don't have to play it and you don't have to post.

Your post isnt constructive, it is an insult based on your opinion of what a mapper should do. Its his map, leave him alone and let him map it.

Have a nice day.

Actually it is constructive, I told him to clip the roads- as it is quite important for a city map. And I would LIKE for you to point out flaws in my map so I can make it better, so stop being some little impulsive and read my post before you accuse me of being insulting noob.

No, you called him lazy even after he explained thats how the roads are where he lives, it seems to be important to you how the roads are, you insult him because he doesnt map "your" way.

And are you sure you mean "clip" as people who speak of clipping are refering to the clip tex, the AAA tex or the wood, metal texs, invisible in game, but solid to make a model have solidity, or to prevent the player from passing or getting stuck.

Then you say "noob"
Any though of a rational adult conversation with you has gone out the window.

Have a nice day.

Easy guys, no need to start anything.

I'm not a mapper, infact, I think this is the first real map I've ever made for HL. Professionalism means squat to me and I couldn't care less if anyone thinks my work is lazy. The map is not going to be perfect, and I don't care if its not. It may not live up to certain people's standards, and again, I don't care. I don't want to be a mapper, I'm just realizing an idea I had.

I'm making a map that will work, a map that I like and I hope will be fun for those who play it.
