2.02 GHz AMD processor
128mb ATI RADEON 9700 Pro

My specs are above the system requirements by ALOT but then at the same time I am having outrageous ping levels at 400's or more while everyone else in the server has like 60. Anyone care to help a fellow out?

Hardware specs do not detirmine latancy, your connection and location relative to the server does in addition to your connection variable settings.

Moved to Questions Forum.

I'm sure someone more fluent than I will be along to aid you more specifically. Have a wonderful week

I have the same almost the same specs as you but 2.60 GHz I have the same card and all. I can help if you tell what kind of connection to the net you have.EX:dsl' cable' or 56k modem.I can host up to 6 people ona server with no lag except the dial up people then no mader how good of a comp you have it will lag like hell.

I believe this has come up often before, but since I don't believe it is in the FAQ yet, I'll reiterate:

1) Connection - make sure you have highspeed/broadband
2) BW usage - make sure you close any other programs that require bandwidth
3) HL settings:

rate - can be set anywhere up to 20,000. Good range for DSL/broadband is between 9999-12000

cl_updaterate - controls how frequently your client updates. Set between 20-45 for servers with less upload. 45-80 for servers with good upload bw.

cl_cmdrate - controls how frequently you update the server. Set between 15-35 if you have a decent connection. 35-50 if you have a good connection

as always, experimentation is the best way to find out which values work best. Use "net_graph 3" to turn on the netgraph to help you with this.
