ok well my computer has been in the shop for a while cuz it was broken when i got it back i reinstalled steam and when i go to play a game my computer just restarts

Check and update DirectX if necessary, get the newest video card drivers, close down any apps you think is suspicious. And let's not forget, search and kill spyware, adware, trojans, viruses and etc.
