hey yall i'm back so hears a fresh start that i will this time finish. ph34r.gif

The Night Ghosts

The mist clung to the tips of the trees like a child clinging to a bole of candy. We sat back and rested. Ten days no rest we had hiked into the Cascades. The wind was beginning to bit my face. It wasnt quite winter yet, it was still cold up hear in the mountains, to our right Mt. Rainier to our left Mt. Baker. We werent going to stop long, Arial would make sure of that. She had a way that I cant quite explain for keeping us going.
We all knew we had put some distance between us and them, and thank goodness too. I wonder from time to time if there still after us. I doubt it though, why would they after all care so much about a few civilians? I dont really know. Then of course we have already lost four of us to the elements. I guess before I go on I should fill you in on the past. It would make everything appear clearer.
The year it all started was 2024 with me and a few friends going down to Vegas to try our luck with the casinos. Jones who worked as security for a bioengineering company couldnt come he had to pick up some scientist guy I guess for thee company. It was a bit of a shame too, we could have used him to even the odds between us and the house. We still managed to bag a few thousand though and walk away with it. For any of you who have been to Vegas know that that is a feat. So we ended up coming home. The air port was full of people trying to leave. We were the only ones coming into SeaTac. It was then that we knew something was up. We went to the parking lot to Arials van and started our way to her home ware we would split up the winnings. The town she lived in was a fairly small one in the northwestern part of Washington.
The town was deserted. All of her neighbors had left in a hurry like the devil himself had come to town. We stopped at her house which had an excellent view of Mt. Baker, and we divided up the money. I think at this point I should clarify that it is not really her house it is more of our house as I have paid for half so far as well. Any way we all started laughing and joking with each other and just for got about what had happened to the town. our happiness was soon broken though by a window shattering scream.

Just so you don't get confused i am switching between past and presant.

Rya looked up from ware she was huddled against a mighty cedar tree. It was dark now; we could only assume it was night. The forest foliage blocked the sky from view. Tears were striking down her eyes; I had not known it was possible for her to cry.
Brandon. She said in a whisper as silent as the morning mist on a spring day. What has happened to the world? she just about broke out a new in tears as she spoke.
I dont know Rya. I did not know what else to say. Sensitivity was never one of my strongest traits.
She looked up at the tree tops. I wish I was a bird. So I could fly up past the trees, past the misery that has come, past the dark and heavy clouds. Just fly away from it all. Just to slowly fly with out a care in the world. She needed a hug we both knew it so did every one else who had stopped to watch her break down.
A few moments latter she was crying on my shoulder and I was searching for what to say.
Dont worry some day you will be a bird. Then you will be free and with out a care. After I said that she gripped me tighter she sobbed a reply.
I (sobs) hope (choke back more tears) your right, (tries to hold them a little longer) Brandon. After about an hour of standing there, she holding me and crying on my shoulder, me holding her and try to clam her she pulled herself together.
We moved out and continued our trek across the mountains, trying to beat the plaque. Though we felt it was a lost cause. We lost four friends already, but death like that just kept us going I guess. I kept looking back a Rya to see if she was alright. I had never before seen that amazing face so sad that light brown hair so droopy. Or that near perfect body so worn out before. I had the strangest felling that I would see her die before this was over. And it would be more than I could bear.

We all rushed outside to see what had caused the scream. The sight that greeted us was one of shear horror. There were ten of them, all huddled around a body. They were eating it, ripping the flesh and muscle off the bone. Then they broke the bones and ate the marrow from the inside. Rats also accompanied them in this feasting of the corpse. We ran back to the house. We did not stop till we had locked up the doors and made sure the windows were secure. Everyone seemed to be in a panic except for Rya who was calm. This was just like her.
We discussed what we should do. I just decided though to call Jones to see if he could help out.
Jones here.
Dam it Jones there a fuck load of things eating a corpse here!
Whoa. Slow down there. Now tell me were they human or animal?
What the fuck dose it matter! There both!
Okay. Calm down. There was a theft of a vary dangerous virus from the place I work. It is only transferred by blood and only effects mammals. Now I want you to get the fuck out of there and let me and my team clean it all up. Got it?
Yea, yea. Well be out a hear way before you see this place.

The night in the woods was cold the moon dim. We moved at a crawl. Tripping over roots that conspired to kill us we almost made it over the next peek before we stopped to make camp. The fire could never it seemed warm us up enough. And the calls of wolfs got louder as the night progressed. By morning we were crossing the peak. The ground was wet and mucky. A light mist had formed and was threatening to turn into a serous rain. Josh was in the lead the rest of us fell in behind. The ground seemed to me to ripple as we walked and I said as much.
Its just your imagination Brandon. Was the response I got. Then as if on queue Josh fell through the ground with a splash.
Shit we walked right onto a fuking Peat Lake! some one from behind me yelled. We looked back and saw a pack of wolfs starting across at us. There eyes were red and there mouths dripped blood. Some had peaces of flesh falling off of them. We could not turn back so we started to run across. I stopped ware josh fell in. I could see his arm so I reached down and started to pull him up when something hit me from the back side and threw me in. I had not got a breath of air. So this is it I thought to my self.

When one knows death is near it is strange what they think. For example; as I was drowning there in that lake I though to a medical conference I had gone to and watched. The man who was speaking was Dr. Carol Jacobson.
Gentlemen, he began, every school child knows life is finite. And that we all go to meet our creator at one point or another, but what if we could postpone that meeting, say a few hundred years, imagine what could be accomplished if we could say save Stephen Hawking life by curing his disease and not only that but restore what damage it has caused. He made what was known as a dramatic pause in his lecture before continuing. we have discovered a rouge strain of Gangrene which we have nicknamed type E. this cross between leprosies and gangrene has ultimately the power to-Brandon-take life and-please wake up-to grant it to who it pleases. I stopped listening to the lecture. I could have sworn I had heard some one calling my name. it was jus-please- t a whisper-. Yes someone was-(crying)-no mistake maybe I was no longer in the water but on-its no use I think hes not going to come to-at that I opened my eyes to see Arial crying over me, and josh lying pale as a ghost next to me.
