I want a train to roll into a station and open its doors then allow the players to escape. I suppose I'd have to also find a way to player clip that area until the train comes to a halt(using multimanager or something). Can this be achieved?

The train part can be done very easily with just the mapname.tsk, but keeping the doors on the train would be harder. If you attempt to make the doors, I suggest making it inside a tunnel, and the doors are on the tunnel, and the open when triggered on the .tsk.

Is it the actual train(train name) that is activated in the .tsk? Also, can you explain the doors in the tunnels?

You make the train however you want it, select all of the train, and group it, and tie to an entity, or just tie to an entity. And I would use the train entity, and place the corners. But whatever you name the train, you would go

objective - -
objective - -
random train -

That's basically how the .tsk would go, but replace the objective with whatever you want, and you can add more, or have less. Also, good tutorial for train type elevator.

And the reason why it's hard as hell to make doors on the train

Here's a suggestion.. dunno if it can be done - I haven't been mapping for hl2.

A train follows some kind of arbitrary path - right?
I suppose there can be some waypoints inserted in the path that cause the train to stop until retriggered.
(I refer to the entity that moves as train - is it still called func_train? ^^)

Assumption: the train has sliding doors

Perhaps you could make the doors seperate "trains" with their path so they take the same way as the actual train in their desired relative position.
Then where the train stops add some more waypoinst that represent the path the doors should move when opening.
Let all doors open in the same direction so you can stuff them together into a single entity.
(If you don't want the doors to open immediatly after the train arrived find a way to delay or retrigger them)

I did it that way in hl1, so it should be possible in hl2 too, hopefully.

The second tutorial I posted in the above post goes to show all the way for it to work. =p

Great!

Err.. that makes me kinda look stupid, doesn't it blink.gif

Anyway, so it is possible.
Conclusion: I'm good... probably I'd get a job as theoretical mapper somewhere blubbern.gif

Blade, dont bump months old topics. The longest I think you can bump is 3-4 weeks. Be a little more careful next time.

I totally owned my self, it's shocking.

I didn't think it was an old topic, was on first page and haven't been on the forums in time.
