WON hasnt worked for like 4 years, all you can do with old version of HL is play LAN games which isnt using the WON service anyways.

But there are ways to pirate HL and CS and stuff and play them online with steam players, I will ask my asian friend he does it.

This is what Ive said for the past couple months every time has requested source: BB source is highly unlikely because the mod team (Ironoak) has decided to use the crystal engine to create an rpg, although they have said there is a small chance of going to source but please, for the sake of all mankind, do not request a port and/or create polls, or even useless threads about the porting of BB, because it is most likely not going to happen, thank you for reading.

I tired just moving the install files the seirra\counterstrike\brainbread so that counter strike would think that its just a MOD, but when I activate it and try to create a lan game, it just "cannot validate CD-key on the Valve system"

I think ill try to reinstall the game with a diff CDkey, then move the files again and see if it works smile.gif

The CD-Key error is because it needs steam... it was build after steams release using the source code that was released after steam I assume so yeah there is no way to run it without steam.

To play new Valve games, you need Steam, or you can't play. Period. No questions asked.

Steam replaced WON a long time ago. It may be a hassle, but it's beneficial. It's good because no one can pirate games using Steam, like some people who'd like to on this forum. Personally, I wouldn't want people pirating my game either. Steam also has many features that make navigation, game browsing, and downloading new games and media a simple feat.

People who usually don't bother getting Steam because they think it's "stupid" are usually the impatient or lazy ones. Can I be more blunt?

Steam just added the ability to download videos and trailers! It rocks... Watch "Zombie Movie" its availiable on steam it was made by one of the dudes who works at valve.

That movie was crazy. He ate his friend's, and well, he wasn't even a zombie...they should have ran for it while they had the chance.

Adding to the media feature Hobo mentioned, you can download game demos and other little movies Valve makes.
