Yeah, well this is my first map... haha, I called it Beta cause I need a few suggestions for a name. I'm still trying to work out a few tweaks and make it a little more eye appealing... But this is my rough idea. I sort of... I really like the map slaywatch.. so I sort of took the general idea and made it.. But I decided to add a few more things.. like more places to enter. The map is basically zombies are coming down the main highway into your town. It's in the beta stages so yes it's going to look like crap. or nothing to great. But some ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Now this is place is... well you know when you drive down the highway and sometimes see like a building that houses the generator and a pit stop for tourists?.. thats mainly it...
(oh and yes, the trashcan is alittle off.. forgot to fix it before I took picture)

Make some different section to camp on, so the player can camp at different section like a gas station or a watertower or even so, inside the bus.

Clip the bus brush some so there isn't run off black on the edges.

Next time when moving a prefab, or anything you need to move, press the button on the top toolbar that has a TL. user posted image

That keeps all textures where they are, so they don't move. Also the as with the box next to the trash, the textures are a little off.

Also, try making some triangles around that area where the building and mountain type thing meets, so it's not just a perfectly straight wall. (Don't go overboard with the triangles though, they can eat your FPS alot if you use too many)

Also, if you did, please don't surround your map in a sky box, around the sides are fine, so that it shows the skybox, but if you have a leak and don't care, and just make a hollow skybox around the whole thing, that's bad. (Not saying you did, but just incase),

You may also want to rotate the sandbags texture on the top by 90 degrees, more realistic. Also, just my eye and orginaztion(sp?), why do you have flying entities? I'm paranoid about things like that =x.

Also, don't rely too much on prefabs, (which can be replaced as props in source hammer). Be creative, use architecture, why doesn't the mountain type thing wall inside the building fall over? Maybe some supports could make it seem like it's not falling.

And another thing, haven't seen any light entities, have any?

You will have to excuse me, I'm a Cons finder =p.

haha don't worry. I need the constructive critisism. Yeah, the straight wall thing.. I was always going to change it.. I really don't like it like that haha.
Ah, the sandbags. Thats a really good idea, I would've never thought of rotating them a little. I have a light entities.. they are just high up in the sky.
Oh the floating ent's? well for some strange reason, if they are to close to the ground they don't show up, or if its a player spawn. They... strangley the person drowns. I raised them up a little bit, about half way.. so they wouldn't get stuck in the mesh, or err.. drown.. I'm even planning to extend the map a little. to make up for the new things to put in. But I have a few questions to myself.

1) I was planning to put trees beside the buildingsin the back, but when I try to make a flat paneled solid facing the highway with a fitted tree textured.. I keep getting a error. Whenever I try to upload the map.

2) My door I made, actually slides open. I don't know how to make it swing open.

3) I was going to add a few more vehicles... but don't know how.. I tried to add the Jaguar ent.. But anything could just go through it.

4) For some reason Fred the farmer won't move.. he just stays stuck.. =(

5) I want to change the amount of frags you have to get, mine simply does 30 everytime.

Theres probably some more.. But I can't think of it..

Man, when i see this stuff, i get tempted to make maps. But its so complicated for me... sleep.gif Im no comp PRO.

Looks like a good map, and, i like rosend's idea, add a gas station or bus or a tower of some sort to camp on, and make sure to add ammo boxes!! biggrin.gif No medkits..

Looking pretty good Hysterical. The concept is appealing, defending an entrance to a still living town will be really cool. I cant give any more critisms at the moment because I have a headache. I want to know though, are you going to put some NPC cops or soldiers? If so, I'd suggest 3 behind the barricades, and maybe a cop or two in the town itself. Keep working!

func_door_rotation btw for rotating doors, you need an origin entity first though. Look here for more info on that entity.

Make a clip box around the model, and possibly keep it accurate to the model, if possible. (To prevent walking through)

Fred is bugged, hit him with the axe, and he moves though.

X amount of kills is set by how many players are in-game.

but I can't really give any more help unless you ask more of show some more screenies =p.

haha thanks alot for your comments. I just had a idea, that I would scrap the marines in the map and use guards. If you really think about it, police would be the main people defending the town. And I might get rid of the front baricade, and "mabye" even the right baricade. And try and use some sort of thing for baricades, as if the citizens quickly built some sort of baricade. I wasn't ever thinking of creating the road into the city, but thats a great idea. I was also thinking of changing the grass to dirt, like a desert thing. and widing up the land beside the roads. That would go extremly well with the skybox I'm using. Mabye instead of a gasstation, I'll use a truck stop... veering off a little bit to the side. For the case, or a good camping spot. If I get bored of the idea, i'll just throw in a gasstation. haha, I'm actually thinking of this idea of a place in New Brunswick called Shediac. hah, bad memories from that spot. hehe, so by getting revenge i'll kill them off with Zombies smile.gif

Yeah, it makes sense to have only cops. But the soldiers could be National Guard you know. Instead of removing some barricades, why not just make them breakable? Make sure the zombies know they have to attack and break the barricades too, or else they'll just run into them like a retard humping a doorknob. I'd prefer you keep the town grassy and green instead of in the desert, but it's your choice.

Here's my NPC defense suggestion:

You have three barricades, put at least 1 cop on each one. If you want, put 2 on each. Since your map is small, I dont think many NPCs are going to lag it up. Then in the town area, have a total of 3-4 cops scattered around. Another thing you should consider. Are the cops going to respawn again after they die? Or will they be gone forever when they die? It would be much more intense if they dont respawn, so it will give the players a sense of being alone in the situation.

The town's back part barricade will be broken by zombies, and there are not enough barneys to defend it!
You have to aid them and kill 90 zombies until the town engineer repairs the damages! biggrin.gif
