I think there is a gore count or something where you can regulate how much gibs there are and the like.

Sorry for taking so long to reply... but this should answer your question:

Alright, If you want to get even more technical and try to make your game run as efficiently as possible, you may want to go and check out the advanced section.
How to get there:

Options > advanced (Above "apply" on multiplayer tab).

Thats it, and in there is a bunch of different values you can set which will hopefully make your game not lag. Anyway, I havent really used that section much, so you might want to just try different things.

Good luck,

I think its safe to say its your video card. Anyhow, getting a new video card (a geforce MX 4000) even though not super powerful, could still possibly play half-life 2 at low settings, and would make it much more enjoyable to play games. I can almost guarantee there will be no lag for Half-life.

Its just because Brainbread is the kind of mod which really pushes half-life to the limits as well as npcs go. Anyway, good luck.

Brainbread really does push it HL to the limit. The reason why I recommended Geforce 4 MX is because I had that card once, and its awesome with HL1, and for HL2 it ran just fine with no stutter at medium settings. The difference is that there are no pixel shading or bump map texturing at all. No bloom and HDR either. So basically running HL2 with a Geforce 4 is an HL2 without all the special stuff.

Most people dont have an onboard video card when they are playing brain bread. Since there are so many npcs, (the zombies) it does take a lot of ram. Problem is, the video card also needs some ram, but theres none left, so it lags. Oh, and brain bread is probably the most demanding Half-life mod there is. (probably game too for half-life)
