Ok so we on the brainbread team have decided to try and get you guy involved some more in our creative process, and we decided the best way we could do this was to have a little mapping competition.
So what we want you to do, is basically make some maps, ORIGINAL maps please, no remakes of old bbmaps as we are remaking these ourselves anyway, but while these maps are all well and good, some of the best and most fun maps were made by people not on the team, and we'd like to bring this across into bbs also. So here are the conditions, Original maps only please. The map must be all your own work. Please no square rooms spawning loads of zombies, this isn't a map, its a joke. Maps should have some sort of objective and be bigger than a single room. The best map or possibly two if we can't decide a clear winner, will be packedged with the mod and released when the mod is, so you get full credit and your five mins of fame. Theres currently no time limit although of course your maps have to be finished before the mod is released. Feel free to post WIP screenies within this thread in order to gain comments and crits. Maps should currently be mapped for hl2dm, don't worry about adding in zombies or anything, We are hoping to get together a little mapping pack for you in the near future including some custom textures and models etc, and hopefully an fgd so you can add in objectives and stuff, but for now, just concentrate on the layout and stuff and build the map for hl2dm. |

no, Like i said, just create the maps for hl2dm, and then once were ready codewise, we'll make an fgd that will allow you to add the zombies in and stuff.

You don't need to worry about that sort of thing. If you want to make a map you can, at the moment however its going to be basically just the geometry, buildings, roads, trees, etc. as well as stuff like lighting, special effects, switches, doors and other dynamic stuff. But that is where most of the work is. We are working on the code to handle the zombies (as it stands there are in fact zombies in the game, that will indeed spawn from zombie spawn points, they just don't do anything yet) and the weapons and everything else, but once the level is actualy created and looks all sexeh, they can be put in afterwards. What we will do, is post an fgd sometime in the immediate future, this we will update as and when we code new bits for it, so that you can add more and more functionality into your maps. I'll post that in a related topic, with a list of the modifications which i'll update as and when. Peace out and good luck mapping. -------------------- ...and they will show you how, to make the future look a bit victorian aged and how to spread your geekness, proudly, not ashamed...

I could be really cheeky and link you guys to my site and forums which is basically mapping tutorials and help.
www.iwannamap.com/forums youre best to just check out the forums for now, I'm still working on the redesign of the site, and while it all works, its not very pretty apart from the first page theres also links to other sites that provide tutorials, so its a win win thing either way |

I gotta question. Is it ok for me to add Combine soldiers or metrocops in the map as friendly NPCs? Or are you guys going to include custom soldiers/cops in the BB:S mapping pack? |
