honestly i think you guys are not really putting yourself in the situation... come on... the world has been takin over by zombies... think about it that would be scary as shit! to think that something like that actually happened... i understand it cant happen so it sounds ridiculous but if it actually happened?! youd all be scared out of your mind hiding under your beds and dont even deny it! none of you would go out and fight and you know it!

When He opened the fourth seal I heard the voice of the fourth living being say, "Come!" Then I looked and saw an ash-colored horse. The name of its rider was Death, and Hades followed him closely. Authority was granted them over a quarter of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with plaque, and by means of the wild beasts of the earth.

...No, I don't think that's the case. I don't scare easily - no, that's wrong, I don't scare at all. I've seen dead bodies before, they don't worry me in the slightest. And there's no freakin' way I'm sitting in my room hoping I don't run out of food while my girlfriend and my mates are out there, and I'm fairly certain that there are others who wouldn't either.

Already got my plan for an invasion sorted, anyways. Shooting range about ten miles from my house, 4x4 jeep on the driveway (I'm not a very good driver, but I can manage until I get to someone who is) and several large knives, bludgeoning tools and the like around my house. I think I'm sorted biggrin.gif

yeah dead bodies arent scary but when they start walking around i dont care what you say your not going to be as brave as you think... everyone thinks they are braver than they actually are... people are whimps... though i guess when it comes down to survival you do whatever it takes to get through the night... still i dont care what you say if the dead start walking your gonna start sweating, its just the natural thing to do in a situation like that is to start panicking and the ones who manage to keep themselves undercontrol well enough that they can think about what to do are the ones who will survive... which will be like the people in the army and swat and stuff.... very few actual civilians are really ready to put their lives at stake like that...

I don't know, sometimes your wrong. I mean cmon, slow ass zombies that are mindless? Well sure, worry bout being outnumbrred, but you can just whack their brainless heads and have fun, to me. If they run, then yeah I'd wimp out. A lot.

well according to some other stuff the zombies still have theyre skills that they had natural to them when they were alive.

for example, a good runner alive would be a good runner as dead too.

i guess i can see what your saying... my version of zombies can run though... i dont see why they cant run. as long as their legs havent decayed too much and they didnt have severe leg injuries i dont see why they cant.... really i dont think the zombies would be what would scare me so much as the idea that the world has been overrun by them...

because their brain lacks the nueral (spelled wrong) capacity to send enough stimulants to their legs to make fast movement. That and when you die you go through rigomortis (also wrong) and a zombie would be stiff

yes but rigomortis is enduced through the nerve system , wich is controlled by the brain.
now as we know when a infected person die they become zombies, through the process that theyr brain reconnect before rigomortis occour.

thats my 5 cents

wow i actually never thought of that... you have a point that would explain why zombies cant run

rigor mortis is temporaryn and wears off after several hours.

So that will only explain some zombies movement, but only a very small fraction. Another explanation is has 2 parts.

1. the virus/parasite/chemical/space ray or whatever has imperfect control over the brain and therefore the body, this imperfect control affects differnet zombies in different ways so you see a range of jerky, spasmodic or just plain wierd movement disabilities.

2. When the physical rot of a zombie gets bad enough the nervous system of body theoretically degrades to the point where normal functions are impaired and no matter how well operated the brain is, the signals just won't go through the pipe line to the muscles.

If you follow the 2nd point to its logical conclusion then the more rotted the zombie becomes the less and less control it has over its body, to the point where the thing just cant operate anymore and it falls over. Again in theory this means that the within the first month the zombie outbreak should contain itself (ala 28 days later) when the zombies literally fall apart due to rot.

However a number of schools of thought argue that in the case of virus/chemicaly induced zombies, the virus/chemical kills all the bacteria that cause a body to rot before it has a chance to do its job. This means that a corpse is kept rot free for much much longer than it normally would. In the case of a parasite similar arguments apply, either the parasite has its own bacteria which do a similar job, or the body isnt really dead yet and the parasite is just in control of the living body (hence a renewed need to feed on living flesh).

theoretically though theres no reason why a zombi couldnt be in full control of all the living person faculties, being able to run, jump, climb, see, breath etc is possible, but this is often more likely in the case of 28 Days Later style zombies where the victims arent actualy dead, theyre just infected with a virus that causes them to behave like a maniac.

indeed, that what im talking about

i loved the way as well you had 'twitchers', zombies who you've injured to the point where their nervous system hgas been utterly fucked up, but they're still trying to get at you.

it was a nice swing on the whole, walking corpse, shoot them in the head thing, 'thats the only thing that will stop them' scenario which Romero started.

The zombie does not have a working nervous system. How can he have a working nervous system if there is no electrical signals coming from the brain?
