Keyes, that's why I put states in quotes, because they are not officially states, but are presented similar to that concept. The EU still isn't considered an official country as a whole, more of an alliance. But I think it'd be better off as one nation.

Or UK - we shunned the pound cus the British public woke up at the last minute and demanded we keep it.

It means your country has to sign over all your gold to Brussels, who sign it over to Germany. Hmm.. what's the most unstable country in Europe... I know, let's give them all our gold so they can start WW3 and laugh as we throw sticks at them. USA certainly wouldn't help us out if we had no money anymore, nor the rest of Europe. sad.gif

Over here it's know as "The Gravy Train", because they collect billions of Euros and refuse to account for where they go to - into the pockets of the administrators.

So please, Ari, don't say it would be a good idea for Europe to become one super state from over the Atlantic, because it would be BAD, VERY VERY BAD! ohmy.gif

just as you flamed us europeans because what we said earlier in the discussion.

The loss of our own currency plus the grouping together of a bunch of countries that don't particularly like each other wouldn't be the best thing in the world.

Besides, the Euro looks like monopoly money.

" i wish that norway would join in on EU so our EURO coins didnt have sweden looking like a peeeniiss "

I don't normally condone the use of drugs, but in this case, I'll suggest that some people take a chill pill.

One of the reasons I like what the European Union is doing is because well, it is seemingly improving relations between European countries that have had many historical conflicts with eachother. However, I'm not sure if that really is the case.

Here are some general and personal questions I have about the Union itself:

1) What does a country have to sacrifice or do in order to join the EU?
2) Is the EU really improving relationships between countries there or worsening them?
3) Are things in general (economy, military, culturally, politically) getting better because of the EU?
4) Is the EU having a substantial impact on life in the respective European country you live in?

I know this seems much but I would appreciate if someone (or some people, it would be nice to have more replies to this) answered these because it would help me clarify some of the confusions I have about the subject matter. smile.gif

1)
you have to pay a substantial tax , and places thats your countries "turf" like a nice fishing spot and such becomes available to the other countries.

2)
i have not seen any improvement in the relationships between countries.

3)
Economy gets a tiny bit worse since we have to pay in tax to the HQ , and change the currency.
with less money the military fund would lessen i wager.

culturaly,,, well norway got a fucked up culture that all depends on which part you are in, example : my part of norway a part of the culture is making infernal noises like " heihahahehaheahieihahaaga " and they call it singing,, or joiking.

politically, would be a hard hit here in norway, because if the government that is on now decides to join into EU , where as we the people always says no , ( there was only 1% of the voters last time that voted " hell yes " for EU ) the people will prob go on riot.

4)
havent joined yet. and hopefully wont join,
the impact though is that the closest countries got euro ( finnland and sweden ) ( allthough sweden got both euro and that other coin ,, sek i think )
makes it kinda cheaper to buy things from the other countries... hoorray for cheap beef.
