i refuse to get blamed for ruining threads any longer so i am continuing this conversation over here... yes i understand that the british can have intellegent jokes but i disagree completely on your version of american jokes... american jokes are more about real life made funny... well most the time anyway... yes we have the people that laugh at the word "poop" but those are the idiots of the world and they are everywhere including britain... its actually more known for british people to laugh at dumb things like that then americans... if you dont believe me heres proof... or its not really proof its more like a video for the new fable game but something he says contributes to my point

fable 2

look my point is there isnt really that much difference between the two comedys... really its all just one big comedy with two different names... if you know what i mean... and you NEVER had to think about what was funny in shaun of the dead... it was stupid funny... yes of course there were some jokes that if you looked past the outside stupid funny there was joke about british politics or something like that but the movie was stupid funny.... or just plain stupid depending on what you think of it... unfortunetly movies like that and napoleon dynomite attract people who like stupid pointless things and cant think past "duh"...

When He opened the fourth seal I heard the voice of the fourth living being say, "Come!" Then I looked and saw an ash-colored horse. The name of its rider was Death, and Hades followed him closely. Authority was granted them over a quarter of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with plaque, and by means of the wild beasts of the earth.

Did you just call Napoleon Dynamite stupid? I'll drown you in a pool of your own blood.

But anyway, I agree, the condescending attitude of our British "allies" pisses me off, no offense Keyes, but it's how it is a lot of the time. Our comedy is just as good as theirs and if they can't accept it then they should go kill themselves with an oversized dildo.

Hey, I like American comedy AND British comedy. But you're right, we do have a fair few people who don't like American humour because it's 'not funny'. I won't deny that. Although in some settings I prefer one over the other.

Yeahh... that's true.. I find American Comedy rarely funny, since most of the time its not.
It always has to involve racism. Well some American comedy is like that.
Though sometimes it just ceases me to laugh....

I really like british comedy because they're really good at bringing the funnies on television..

So I'd go for British comedy over American comedy..

The thing about comedy is its kinda like love or art. What people find funny is completely subjective. Some people love Slapstick, others don't. Just because someone doesn't find a particular kind of humour funny doesn't mean its not funny, it just means that that person isn't wired up to appreciate and enjoy that kind of entertainment.

More than this though comedy is often very cultural and plays on many of the subtle relationships in a society that people are aware of only on some non-obvious level. Example: Did you know that in France there is no such thing as stand-up comedy? There just aren't any. It's because traditional the French people aren't (or weren't) willing to go and see and enjoy that kind of entertainment.

So often people from other countries simply don't get our humour and visa-versa because they don't have the same familiarity with our culture. The US makes this obvious because they are a very inward looking country (sorry you have been since the whole Isolationsim thing back in the 1910-20's) and pay little attention to other countries or cultures.

Also modern american comedy stems largely from things like Charlie Chaplin (slap-stick) and the lounge bar and stage entertainment circuits, which usualy consist of very quick short gags one after another.

Hello ladies and germs its wonderful to be here tonight. My wife is so fat when she jumps up in the air she gets stuck
[cue canned laughter]
but seriously folks.....
[cue second joke]
[cue canned laughter]
etc

So the US populous (to stereo-type for a moment) sometimes don't compeltely grasp some of the more subtle types of humour, which are popular in britian atm.

Also alot of people make the mistake of thinking that there is a universal comedy that funny for everyone everywhere, but as i've already said comedy is a very subjective, very personal thing. I guess thats why people like Tanker feel the need to validate their choice of comedy in a seperate thread.

Personaly i love comedy, i find nearly anything with at least some humour in it funny. I don't care which country it comes from. There is alot of good US comedy out there Simpsons, Southpark, Family Guy but i have an issue with most US sit-coms as they tend to be formular driven, powered by canned laughter, but there are a huge number of stand up comics in the US who make me howl with laughter. However there will always be a special place in my heart for british comedy, it is after all the land i live in (although not of my birth)...

edit: i really must stop making these long posts, i don't think anyone reads them :S

British humour is much more Intelligent than Americans Blah Blah Blah. You are wrong, British humour is real life turned comedy and we don't laugh at silly things, apart from our young. British humour and American humour is not comparable because we are completely different in our Culture.

Americans = Our humour is the best!

British = Our humour is the best!

I love American humour, but i favour British humour obviously, it's idiotic to say one countries humour is better than another.

Also, British humour can make you laugh about something that would usually make you want to cry.
