When He opened the fourth seal I heard the voice of the fourth living being say, "Come!" Then I looked and saw an ash-colored horse. The name of its rider was Death, and Hades followed him closely. Authority was granted them over a quarter of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with plaque, and by means of the wild beasts of the earth.

I have limited experience with bladed weapons, in that I have trained to use a sword and knife well enough (not at the same time though tongue.gif ) and I just want to set some things straight, as I see just a few people posting nonsense such as "I have a knife that can cut through bone."

No, a knife cannot cut cleanly through your arm or leg bones - possible through a wrist joint if it were applied as part of a lock. I use katana-style swords, and despite what you see in the movies, they are not lightsabers. If an untrained person simpyly picked one up and swiped it at someone's shinbone, they are just as likely to shatter the blade as to cut his leg off.

As to those of you who claim to carry up to 14" knives round at your age, I hope for everyone's sake you are fibbing, because if you were mugged that knife is much more likely to be used against you than to protect you - a knife fight is one of the worst things to get into, and I would never willingly choose to disarm someone unless I thought it was the only way out of a situation - even then I wouldnt start "wrestling" for the knife, becasue then it's a coin toss...

I don't know how we got into talking about knives and deciding if they can cut through bone or not, thats not the topic the topic is "Fighting Styles" get back on it or this is closed.

--------------------

There are a few reasons I don't visit the forums as often as I used to, they are as follows:

1) I really don't have a lot of time.

2) My hardrive is failing

3) The forums honestly frustrate me to a point I cannot stand it, I've tried to help, I've tried to set people straight, but apparently, the health of these forums only matters to a few people. Thats just sad, most of us have grown along with these forums and along BB and frankly its disgusting to see the way you guys act sometimes...

until you pull your acts together, don't expect to see me around much.

WHERE IS MY DELETE POST FUNCTION!?

By yourself?

I have doubts about that - a firm slice may do the trick, but the average joe would seriously struggle just getting through sinew.

Want to know something about Fighting Styles? I'll tell you something, most of it IS bullshit. Now before you jump my shit, hear me out. If you go to an average, everyday Martial Arts gym, they'll teach you how to punch, kick, and whatever. But actualy sparing, where you are able to utilize it CORRECTLY? No, not often. I've done a number, and very few actually teach SELF-DEFENCE. If you really want to learn how to properly learn self-defence, go to a MMA gym; because, believe it or not, a lot of fights end up down on the ground, and grappling and pressure points are very helpful to learn. And another way is to build up your Cardio. No matter how strong you are, if you get out of breath and can't throw punches quickly, you're not going to be doing well against a jumpy boxer.

What a lot of people fuck up on is their breathing as well. Getting an instructor to teach you kickboxing/boxing will teach you proper breathing techniques. Simply put, if you don't breathe properly, the stress on your lungs will deter your skills in hand-to-hand. Goes back to cardio. However, typical, amateur fights don't really last longer than a minute or more.

Not all the time, foo.

That gun can get knocked off the hand... if close by.
If not, then run for cover.

Fists are better than weapons, for they stick to you, forever. No need to bring anything else.
A gun on the other hand, or any other weapon, may be knocked off the hand. You're left with no defense.  laugh.gif

lol... with me you can stick your hands up and i will remove them forever with one well placed shot from 338 mag.

Or the military sniper rifle i wish i still had the 50 BMG.....

Come on guys get with the modern age....

I mean geez swords and knifes..... Come on....

this is much more effect than a knife or a sword because, it puts the person under your control.. Though it is no lethal it is good to give your wife if you get home all the time late. Better to get tasered that shot with any gun.

Seconded. I think I was lucky, finding a class with a range of martial arts rolled into one, including self-defence.

Sparring is not fighting. Remember that. Many many people think that the sparring side of a martial art is its fighting side - certainly not in any I've seen and probebly not in any other art.

I agree that the majority of students do not know how to fight properly, and they go through the motions like dancing, but if you actually learn the martial art and train hard in it, no matter what it is, you will come out vastly superior to any street fighter simply because of your increased speed, strength and more tactical thinking - even if that fighter has been lifting weights and punching other people for years.

Let's not bash the martial arts shall we? Many of them have been around for longer than we have (thousands of years, some of them), so there surely must be something right about them.

*edit* Also, boxing I'm afraid is totally outgunned and outclassed by the strict programmes followed by the arts. I dare say there are a lot of bigger and stronger people out there than me in my street alone, but not many that could beat me up without sustaining injuries themselves.
