Figured I'd start a thread to discuss these two, related issues: What changes would you like to see to the weapon balance system? And what new weapons, cybernetics, and equipment would you like to see added?

First of all, techinacal corrections. I know this isn't a realism mod, but I want to make sure these are known.

The Desert Eagle in .357 magnum holds 9 rounds per magazine, not seven. It holds eight when in .41 AE and .44 Magnum, and seven when it is chambered for .50 AE or .440 CorBon.
The magazine capicities of the P225 and P226 are switched in the manual, but are right in-game (I think).
The SPAS and M3 are both two mode shotguns. When firing conventional shotgun ammo, both would be set to fire semi-auto (especially the Benelli).
The ROF of the M16 and Travor's burst mode is way too high.
The SR-25 has a 20 round magazine.
The Microuzi is classified as a machine pistol, not a full submachine gun.

Now I couldn't care less if the names are messed up, but balance is another matter.

-The USP 9 is just taking up space. It's almost identical to the P226 and Beretta 92FS. The machine pistol isn't different enough from the single Glock MP and the P226 MP to make it useful.
-Drop the 226 MP price to 10 credits. It's nice, but not as nice as akimbo Glocks, and not three points nicer than an single Uzi.
-Akimbo Berettas need to fire twice as fast as the single version. Why don't they use the same akimbo system as the Uzis and Glocks anyway?
-The Desert Eagle needs either a ROF and magazine capicity increase or a price drop. It isn't quite worth 7 credits as is.
-The single P226 needs a price drop too. Like the DE, it's good, but not 6 credits good (That's enough for a kevlar vest, cyber arms, or cyber legs).
-The M3 and SPAS need a ROF increase and more spread. They're jsut as powerful as SMG's up close, but they can't hop around spraying bullets. Lets make them the point blank specialists.
-Possibly drop one of the shottys for something else. I find them to be too much alike: The SPAS is a little more powerful, the Benelli is a little cheaper. Maybe have a short pump action instead of the Benelli; same power and ROF as the Benelli has now, but would hold fewer rounds and be cheaper.
-The Seburo is nice, but you can't carry enough ammo for it. Why have it when a pair of Uzis will match its ROF, power, and accuracy while carrying way more ammo. Needs a small price drop, or maybe just a complete redesign.
-MP5SD vs MP5/10: Near identical stats, yet the MP5/10 costs one credit more and lacks a siliencer. See a problem? Swap prices I say.
-The Stoner needs either a ROF increse, a damage increase, or a price drop. It can't kill with one shot to the head, but it doesn't fire fast enough to be a flexable marksmans rifle. I vote for the damage increase.
-The 551 takes forever to revover from a burst, costs more than any other assault rifle, yet has no apparant accuracy, ROF, or power advantage over them. For one credit less I can get and AUG, which recovers quicker and sports a scope for increased long range accuracy. I think it should be droped in favor of a new assault rifle.
-Single Beretta needs a ROF increase and an accuracy decrease.
-The M16 and Travor are a little too alike. Both have full auto and burst modes, the travor fires a bit faster and costs a credit more, while the M16 is cheaper and more accurate. Because the Travor seems well balanced as is, I suggest modifying the M16, but I'm not sure exactly as to how.
-The P225 needs to deal more damage and/or fire faster, due to its small magazine. Or maybe it needs to be replaced as well. Not sure yet.
-Most of the cyber addons need to be either cheaper or more powerful. For example, the fastjack addon costs more than the cyberarms you need to have it, yet the arms increase knife damage a lot more, increase your max ammo capacity, speed up your reloads, and protedt you. The grenade range increase is gravy (not a big deal, and useless if you lack grenades), so esentially your coughing up those eight credits for a 50% bonus to hack, which isn't used on dirty buisness maps, and might be used every fourth round in the hacking maps if you're the syndicate. Does that seem justifiable? I would go with a combo of the two: the archilles heel and sentinal could be enhanced to make em worth the price, the other could lose a credit or three in price.
-Nightvision is pretty usless right now. Most maps are plenty well lit, plus you have your stock flashlight if the server allows it. I suggest removing the flashlight from the mod and making the goggles cost one credit. They still won't be used too much, but at one credit that wouldn't seem quite so bad (plus removing the flashlight would free up a key in the controls menu).
-For the expense, armor could use a slight increase in effectiveness. They are sturdy enough, just have them absorb a higher percentage of the damage you get hit with (I've seen many people die with a significant amount of armor intact).

That may seem like a lot but A] I type a lot and B] most of the changes are extremly minor. There are just a lot of those minor changes is all.

Now for the fun part: The new stuff!

Weapons:
-A .45 caliber pistol. Any .45 caliber pistol. Except for the deagle and maybe the P225, all the pistols are 9mm. Lets have some diversity people! (Plus .45 ACP is the perfect balance of magazine capicity, power, and recoil IMHO.)
-The G3 or a similar battle rifle would be the perfect replacement for the 551. Heavy recoil, high price, and a 20 round magazine balanced by the best accuracy and power of all the assaut rifles would make it a good choice.
-The G11 Caseless assault rifle. They don't get much more futuristic than this. A 50 or 45 round magazine (varies by model) filled with 4.5mm caseless ammo, full auto, semiautomatic, and a three round burst mod with an insane ROF, not to mention that a 1x or 1.5x optical scope is standard. Caseless ammo is probably going to become common in the next generation of millitary weaponary anyway. High magazine capacity and low recoil would be balanced by low damage (small rounds go fast, but don'tmake big holes) and moderate stats for the rest.

Cybernetics (If you notice a distinct Shadowrun influence in these, you're right):
-Move by wire system. Stand alone component. Increases run speed, reload speed, reduces fall damage, speeds up semiauto ROF (if possible). No bonus to health or armor. Replaces connections between brain and muscles with computer control, increasing speed, reflexes, and dexerity.
-Monomolecular Blade. Requires cyber arms. Replaces knife in inventory. Better reach that knife, and much better damage. Not too cheap. Could be combined with other cyber components for a melee only config. A long, razor sharp blade that can be retracted into the forearm when not in use.
-Cyber eyes. Requires cyber head. Gives you thermal vision as well as the ability to zoom in your vision (about as much as a SMG scope, would stack with normal scopes if possible). Eyes replaced with multifunctional cameras.
-Skill softs. Standalone component. Each one of these cheap (think 1 or 2 credits) little chips give you a moderate increase in a single skill (Melee damage, hack speed, accuracy, reload speed, just about anything). Small chips that plug into your brain via your cybernetics and provide basic knowledge about a variety of subjects.

Equipment:
-Antipersonal grenades. Lacking the versitility of the multifunctional grenades and slightly less powerful, these conventional grenades go off after a set period of time. The Pro: they don't cost as much.
-Drone. A small, stealthy recon drone useful for keeping tabs on the enemy. Also equiped with a remote destruct charge that is notiably more powerful than strictly required. Extremly hard for the enemy to spot and don't show up on radar. Expensive, and you only get one. While in use you cannot move or shoot. Image appears in upper left corner of screen (you still have awareness of suroundings). If you change from the drones controler to another item or weapon, you lose the image box and the drone will hover in place until you resume controlling it (so you can defend yourself).

More to come after my finger and brain (mostly fingers) recover.

Whoa!
You've got nice ideas!
Thanks for that!

I think some of these things we could change and add.... above all at the cyberstuff.... because we want to make more of them and make them more important for the game

I'd like to see 2 things not mentined above:

1.) The knife needs more range, its really hard to hit someone when they are crouching. You need to crouch down to and your all vulnerable when you have no speed.

2.) There should be an implant under cyber legs that makes your footstep sounds softer and not eing able to be seen on radar unless your are real close (normal distance if the guy has sentinal).

Hehe! Most of those ideas (for example the kamikazeprobe, cybersporns or the cybereyes) have been designed (there´s a model of this probe), but we had not the time to implant them. ^^ We also had a nice psycho-laugh-button for the probe to give enemies a sarcastic end... ^^

the][enemy: Yeah the Seburo is pretty powerful. My only problem is that it eats though its small ammo supply too quick (one time I had cyberchest and cyber arms and still ran out of ammo for tht thing). Perhaps a drop in cretit cost would be accompanied by a drop in accuracy and/or ROF.

[PE]PeiceOfShib: Cool cool.gif

AzureNightmare: 1.) I agree, but my solution is a replacment for the die-hard knifers instead (See cybernetics: Monomolecular Blade). 2.) A stealth implant would be cool, but I fail to see how legs relate to radar visibility. Perhaps it would be a stand alone, maybe an expensive skillsoft, or put it under my move by wire system as an addon.

BTW: Does sentinal actually increase the distance at which you detect enemies? The once or twice I've tried it the distance (not on the radar screen, the actual distance between us) seemed about the same.

[PE]MadMax_FMM: Great minds think alike. huh.gif blink.gif biggrin.gif Unlike the suggestions I posted in the constructive critacisim thread, I expect these to take a while, and not all need make it in (The one in that thread I would like to see all added, and soon).

cybersporns: You mean like the monomolecular blade?

And I lke the twisted smiley. happy.gif

Seeing how this is a futuristic mod, how about some sort of primitive energy weapon? I don't want to turn this into star trek/star wars/unreal tournament or something, but maybe one energy weapon. Perhaps like the plasma-beam rifle from the Matrix, the one which... the bad guy uses to burn the other guys in the cockpit of the hovership. Seeing how one of them survived being burnt, got up and used the gun on the baddie, its clearly not very powerful. It left severe burns but didn't cut through them.

So how about a weapon similar to Half-Life's gluon gun but with low damage? Advantage over regular bullets is 100 units of ammo, no reload and no spread from continuous fire, but disadvantage is from fact that everyone can see the bright blue beam and the powerful bullet weapons or the minigun can do more damage during the same period of time. Actually, what would be cool is if the beam itself spread over distance, but got weaker over distance as well. (It's a beam of plasma or ions or particles, not a laser beam.)

So many mods nowadays are going for modern weapons and ultrarealism. Desert Crisis is the refreshing difference cause it has realistic and futuristic weapons like laser rifles and a plasma cannon. Public Enemy is even more futuristic than Desert Crisis, seeing how you have all those cyberimplants and cities that look like Blade Runner, so I don't think it will spoil the mod's feel to have a portable energy weapon in it.

(OFF-TOPIC: In the original matrix script, that energy weapon was a plasma rifle which fired comet-shaped wads of plasma. And when the sentinal robots break into the ship, Morpheus is blasting the machines with the plasma rifle, but then gets his arm chopped off by a laser. Also, originally they killed the bug in Neo's chest with ambulance defribulator pads rather than a high tech machine. I'm not a huge Matrix fan, but I just read the script, and I doubt many people know that stuff.)

Futuristic weapons:

We planned to include futuristic weapons (plasmalike, antigrav, flamethrower, singularity-grenade etc) for PE, but we had not the time to include them into the first Beta. wink.gif

We had to reduce lots of ideas to create a solid (ok... biggrin.gif) first beta. Otherwise it would be even more fatal. ^^

ah, shadowrun smile.gif

nice selection of cyber there desperado cool.gif

now the blade may look better as those classical wolverine claws (or spurs as they are called in shadowrun), but thats just me. in either case it will look damed intimidating to be hunted by some nutcase with wired reflexes and that blade cool.gif

hmm, i made a thread for a cyberspace idea. it may not be good but what the hell, i have a feel it could be fun smile.gif

i kinda miss dermal armor (basicly armor attatched to your skin) but with the existing cyber parts it may not be needed smile.gif
