I just recently downloaded bb and followed all the instructions for installation, though now when I start the game through the shortcut it only goes to the normal Half life with no mod. How do I fix this problem? Thank you.

This may not help,but have you tried not using the shortcut? What I mean is use the steam client to see if it works.
