Ok as a shop owner, this is my advice.
First of all, since youīre upgrading mobo, cpu and graphics, why are you staying in AGP? it makes no sense to me, go PCI-E. Because itīs AGP, no itīs not a good rig, and in my own personal oppinion, there is no point upgrading your whole pc, and again, staying in the now defunct AGP technology. About the mobo, if possible stay away from ASRock, try asus, gigabyte, whatever, just not ASRock. About keyboard and mouse, if you feel wireless is the way for you, then thereīs nothing wrong with that, but if you donīt mind cables, you can get a nice set of keyboard and mouse for the price of a wireless set, plus you donīt have to worry about the receiver dying, changing the batteries, etc... About the HDD, in my oppinion, Seagate, but this is one of, everyone has their own taste, so donīt worry to much about this one, good thing, HDDs are dirt cheap now a days, you can get a 750Gb 32Mb Cache sata2 hdd for 100 euros for example. A good and cheap wiress card or the usb dongle, is the TP-Link series, yes there are better models and brands, but in my oppinion itīs the best value for money. About the graphics card, it is my oppinion that currently you get better value for money on nvidia rather than ati. Awesome thing about creative sound blaster is that, any card will be decent regardless of itīs age, i find that the now ancient live series, beats all integrated sound cards even by todayīs standards so yeah, unless you plan to get awesome speakers, that card is fine : ) even better thing is, if it brakes, you can get one for 10 euros on ebay : D about ram, considering the current cheapness of ddr2 800 ram, specially value for money on Kingston, get it, tis good, although try to keep it in full numbers, 1, 2 or 4 gigs, in 2 or more sticks, so it runs in dual channel mode : ) about the cpu, the difference between the 4000 & 4600 in price in practically non-existant, so get the 4600 if thatīs ok, that cpu should be more than you need for years to come : ) although i would suggest changing the heatsink, doesnīt have to be something fancy, try something like the Xilence series, something like 10-15 euros, same size as the factory one, but much better perfomance, which gives room for overclocking, however the artic cooling one will be just fine if you preffer that brand. Also consider chances is youīll need a new PSU for your new mobo connectors, donīt guide yourself by the power ratings as thatīs simply max power output, not real measurements in the cheap psu area, so to keep it cheap and good, again go to Xilence, the 420w RMS by Xilence is all youīll ever need and itīs pretty decently priced. Lastly, you have absolutly no need for water cooling : ) I hope this info is usefull for you, feel free to ask any questions : ) and most of all, enjoy your new system! |

Yeah sure itīs no bother, iīll try to help you as much as i can : )
Ok AMD & Intel, since youīre on a budget, i recommend this time you stick with amd, not saying they are or arenīt better, however the 64 range are kickass value for money, so yeah : ) About ASRock, well, iīm sure theyīre not all like that or they wouldnīt sell, but iīve sold 6 since i opened my shop last year, 5 where brought back, since then i simply donīt deal with them. About your budget... hmm i have no idea of prices in the uk so iīll try my best to compare. What iīll do is iīll give you a list of components i would use to build your system for that price k? Iīll be using ciao.co.uk to get a price refference but iīll be adding a few quid on top to compensate for shop price, or if you choose to order online, P&P. Iīm assuming you already have the case itself, and the rom drive. Ok, letīs start: Motherboard: ASUS M2A-VM (NOT the HDMI version as thatīs more expensive), dead cheap, micro-atx mobo that pretty much does everything youīll ever need, 45-50 quid CPU: AMD AM2 X2 (Dual Core) 4000+ to 4600+ (this depending if you can afford the different once youīve payed for everything else, so iīd recommend buying this the last). Superb dual core cpu, veeeery overclockable with the right heatsink (but stay with the factory one for now since weīre on a budget). 45-55 quid RAM: 2x 1Gb Kingston DDR2 800, pretty good quality ram memory, and dead cheap. 30-45 quid for both sticks. HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250Gb S-ATA2 8-16Mb Caché. 35-45 quid, do have in mind though that the difference in price between higuer and lowe capacity models is pretty low. Graphics Card: Galaxy Factory Overclocked Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 512Mb DDR3 (Do not be fooled by the 1024Mb version as itīs ddr2 therefore slower. 70-85 quid PSU: If you can afford a bit more and can find it in the UK, Xilence 420w (Look for the red and black box, the PSU itself is black. It shouldnīt be more expensive than 35-40 quid. Regardless, any white branded 450w psu will do for this system. Total Best case scenario with stock psu: 240 Quid Worst case scenario: 285 (But you shouldnīt really pay that much for this). Also, if you order from the internet, try to order it all from the same shop to save in postage and might even get a discount : ) Iīd help you out, but because of postage from spain to uk, it would most likely end up costing more. |

wow nicely done hunter, i mean i knew ciao wasnīt the cheapest but damm, good job : D iīd recommend cutting down on the psu and getting the galaxy version of the 8600 gt too, and thereīs no reason for the hdmi version, as youīre spending extra for an addon you wonīt use (integrated graphics card with hdmi, as thatīs what it is) plus thereīs pretty much no performance gain between the 4600+ and 5000+ so maybe you can save a couple of quid on that?
Also, you gotta have in mind you have to add P&P to that final price hunter, so maybe it goes way to much over budget for vox? This post has been edited by Luciel on June 18, 2008 10:09 pm |

Iīd also like to add vox, when you get all the parts, put the mobo, graphics, cpu and ram togueter on a woof surface and turn it on, just to make sure it all works fine before sticking it in the tower in case something has to go back.

Yes they all are except the mobo, thatīs not the one, youīre looking for the M2A-VM
And hunter, itīs not about the memory, itīs about the core and frequency itīs got for the money it costs, it wil run anything you throw at it. |

If you can get the plain M2N thatīs also fine, but by the prices i get from my supplier, itīs supposed to be a more expensive motherboard, good thing is, itīs the flagship motherboard by ASUS for the AM2 socket.
