From the topic name I’ve recently got a DELL Inspiron 1525

Speciations:

CPU: Intel® Celeron® CPU 560 @ 2.13GHz
GPU: Intel GM965 (x3100)
RAM: DDR2, PC2-6400 (400 MHz), 1024 MBytes, MOSEL
Hard Drive: 120GB (They lied its only 111GB ¬_¬)

I have got the following games to work

Half-Life
Sven-Coop
Counter-Strike: CZ
Counter-Strike: Source (Full)
Half-Life 2 (Full)

I was wondering what’s the best RAM & what is a good hard drive for this laptop? When I get my job seekers id like to upgrade this I want to try and start mapping and doing more editing for Half-Life and start editing for the source engine

I don't think that CPU is dual core. It's going to be a bit slow with a single core, especially if you're running Vista. As for RAM, you need more than 1 gig. You need at least 2 to run the laptop nicely. The 120 (or 111, lol) is actually quite adequate, you don't to update that one so much. As for the GPU, it could have been better, like Mobile Radeon HD 3450 or something like that. Intel's integrated stuff sucks for gaming.

No its single core

i have XP pro (the laptop came with ubuntu 8.04 installed tongue.gif)

i figured as much for the ram but when i mean what type of ram, i mean what make etc

the 1525 only has the option on intergrated GPU, and even tho it is intergrated i get good frame rates

Half-Life/Sven Coop - 40 to 75 FPS
Half-Life 2.CS:S (With Everything Set to Highest) 40 to 75 FPS
Counter-Strike - 40 to 100 FPS

this GPU even runs COD4 at low settings with 50 - 65 FPS, which i have to say is pretty good

They didn't lie Vox, its a 120GB but the OS will take up space, as well as other stuff reducing it to only giving you 111GB total to do stuff with.

Dude, GeForce 256 can run Half Life 1 and Counter-strike 1.6 with good frame rates, so I don't even know why you'd mention those. It's good that Half Life 2 and CSS are running pretty well, but remember, although the menu says some graphics features (such as HDR, anti-aliasing) are enabled, they are most likely not. Trust me. I'm using GeForce 8200 integrated graphics (as I lended my 9400 GT out to a friend) and it's much better than Intel 3100. However, it doesn't support HDR lighting and anti-aliasing passed 2x.

And also, ANY brand name laptop or desktop will have voided warranties if they are personally customized. That's old news.
