Yes, this is my semi-monthly comeback to the forums. I was thinking I should hype my latest game purchase, Red Faction Guerilla. The destruction is simply amazing. Using various explosive weapons you send chunks of concrete and steel from buildings flying everywhere. I played this game for the first time with my brother and a friend of his, and we sat for hours laughing hysterically as we unleashed hell on Earth Defense Force.

Perhaps the two most practical weapons are your demo packs and sledgehammer. Simple fun that will help you a lot. Nothing beats rigging a building up with ten or so charges, retreating to a comfortable distance, and then see the building crumple from the explosions. The physics are amazing: first the explosion sends a large portion of the building flying. All that debris hits other parts of the building, and helps punch holes in it. And if you're lucky enough to damage the supporting pillars of the building, it falls down. Beautiful.

Now, as usual with a game, I have some issuers with it. The chunks could be nicer. As of now they are mostly squares or square-sih bits. I would love to see more small, irregular shaped bits, and not just the huge square chunks. Also the story is good enough, but could be longer and better. Especially the videos, not enough of 'em. I hope others here buy it as well, the world needs more destruction smile.gif Maybe somebody else already has it?

Once I have the new apartment, I'm definitely getting it for the PS3. Played the demo a short while ago and it was awesome. What system did you get it on?

Red Faction's old but sweet... remember seeing it when my PS2 was new. Now this sounds very interesting. I'd probably get it later on... hammers rule.

I have it on the xbox. The ol' faithful is my favorite console, even though it had a period in which it made nasty scratches in every disc we inserted sad.gif

And yeah, hammers rule. Know what's better? Sledgehammers. And do you know what's even better than that? A sledgehammer with a hydraulic hammer head that pops on contact, delivering 1000 extra pounds of force to your swing. Now that's awesome biggrin.gif

Amazing.....

I also paid attention to the commercial more, and wow you really can blow things up fully.... and that's really great in my type of games.

So what makes the destruction of everything different from games such as bad company or mercs 2?

From what I've heard, the destruction in Mercs 2 was scripted. Meaning, if you deal enough damage to a building, it will collapse in a pre-determined way. In guerilla, the game uses techonology that tears buildings up randomly. Shoot a rocket at a wall, and chunks fly off. If the chunks hit other parts of the building, new holes. If the building is unstable, it might fall apart by itself.

Bad company has a nice kind of destruction, but it's not as thorough. For example you can blow holes in walls, but you cannoot tear the entire building apart. There is a limit to the destruction sad.gif But the advantage BC has above guerilla is that the terrain itself is deformable. Explosions can make craters and such in the ground. In guerilla only buildings can be destroyed.

But either way, guerilla ftw.
