They shot glances at one another and then the crowds became visible over the top of the steps. An overwhelming mass of people poured into the hallways, sprinting blindly into the darkness towards them. A young woman ran full speed into a garbage can and fell hard, tipping it over. She was trampled and tripped over by the ensuing mob.

Nick grabbed Toms arm and pulled him quickly into a classroom, shut the door, and engaged the deadbolt. Nick?! What are you doing? We could let some people in! The crowd surged past the small window in the door.

Tom, look at them. Theyre trampling each other. As far as theyre concerned its everyone for themselves. They watched through the window. Several people ran into a classroom directly across the hall, about four or five people, and shut their door as well. God, what are we going to do?

The crowd dispersed shortly and all became eerily silent. They breathed heavily together in the empty classroom. The desks were arranged in lines, unoccupied and in the darkest corner of the room was the teachers desk. Against the wall opposite the door were large windows that looked out over the main road. The street eventually led to the front of the school. The streets were deserted. All that moved was the rain.

Finally, after almost ten minutes, a new crowd shuffled down the hall; A crowd of bloody men, women and children. Their eyes darted and their teeth glistened in the faint light. Some managed to carry themselves on what appeared to be broken legs or ankles, pitching forward with each step. Tom could see the people locked across the hall as their expressions changed to absolute horror as they realized that the school was occupied by this infectious mass.

It seemed that the group could not smell them hiding in either of the classes. They ambled straight down the hall without deviating to either room.

They dont know were in here, Tom whispered almost inaudibly into Nicks ear.

Or maybe the uninfected are in a big group somewhere else and they can smell them or something, Nick suggested.

A girl about ten years old with ratty hair ran from the crowd quite suddenly and smashed herself against Toms door. He withdrew with terror, but the girl appeared to be coherent.

Please let me in! she cried and begged, shaking the handle frantically. In the light that streamed through the windows they could see her neck, ravaged by teeth marks and bleeding profusely. Contaminated people shuffled behind her. Apparently they knew she would turn and were leaving her alone until the disease took hold.

Youre bitten, said Nick quietly. She could read his lips. We cant.

She howled a cry of agony and began to beat on the strong window with weak hands. She walked out into the middle of the hall and collapsed. Tom and Nick watched in silence. She remained still for a long time and then she began to twitch and writhe. She thrashed on the floor and pulled at her hair. A handful tore free into her closed fist. The girl shrieked and cried until she had the strength to stand again. After that, she ran full speed in the direction the previous crowd had, continuing to squeal off into the darkness.

The more I read, the more I love it. Great job! I can't wait to read the next page... Maybe you could make it a Christmas gift to all us fans?

The group across the hall appeared as terrified as they were. A woman, about mid twenties, was frozen in the window while the rest of her group walked in circles behind her, arguing inaudibly. Nick withdrew from the window and started to pace. He ran his hands through his short brown hair nervously. What the hell is going on? Everything is messed up.
I dont know. We cant try and figure it out right now.

Nick grabbed onto a desk and flipped it over angrily. It clattered loudly. What the hell are we supposed to figure out? Are we going to die in this school? Become one of them?

Tom sighed. He could see his friend was stressed but he wasnt about to let him lose it. Not now. Calm down. I dont think anyone knows whats happening.

Oh thats bull and you know it. Have you heard any rescue helicopters? No. You heard those guys talking about us down in the hall. They thought I was one of them? Who are they?! His mind was racing. He went over to the teachers desk and flung a stack of papers everywhere. They fluttered to the floor and then he collapsed in the chair, hiding himself in shadow. Something is going on bigger than me and bigger than you.

I like the story keep going dont stress yopurself but go on you can think of something.
